I mean, yes, there are some riders who ride far too fast on that road, a few have ended up walking home , a lot more have had their wallet dented.
The biggest problem I see on that road are push bike riders who show absolutely no consideration for other road users. I could not count the number of times I have come across groups of cyclists on Peak Rd riding 3 or even 4 abreast through the area in which the Dr was killed & the approach to Helensville. They want 1.5 m clearance which puts a motorcyclist on the wrong side of the road when passing them , or worse you find a car coming around a corner on your side of the road trying to pass cyclists.
More people will die on that road , some motorcyclists are at fault, a far greater number of push bike riders need to clean up their act.

yes push bike riders on the rd are damn dangerous. they really do need to sort their shit out. it is bloody scary coming across a bunch of them without expecting them to be there.

but i keep reminding myself on that rd, especially in the weekend that you have to be able to stop in the distance you can see. either in a car or on a bike.

that rd is going to claim more lives in my opinion. at least until the zoning changes and the whole north end of the rd turns into a 50km area.

but then people here will still speed in the 50k area and tell everyone that it is not their fault

Not another speed limit reduction. Peak Rd is rural and should have speed limits as such. 50 KM on that stretch of road would be ludicrous and just inviting users to break the law. If speed limits are to be respected then they need to be appropriate. Taupaki Rd is another Rd with a ridiculous speed limit and an equally ridiculous intersection. A speed limit is the upper limit. You still ride/drive at a speed appropriate to the circumstances and conditions.
    I follow the 50/50/90 rule.
Anytime I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right there is a 90% probability I will get it wrong

Yeah, the one that gets me is the coro. Funny how a lot fo the motorway sections in auckland are 80, yet you get to coro and there is a 100 speed limit on the coast road heading to coro town, shortly after the start of which there is a 35km/h corner .

Would you prefer that the whole stretch of road before that was 35kmh? Perhaps they could put sign posts at suitable intervals back from the corner advising you of a max safe speed so that you know when to start braking in order to slow down for the 35kmh corner?

The simple rule that applies is that you should be able to stop in the visible distance in front of you. If you miss the fact that there is a 35kmh corner coming up, you are not paying enough attention.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

The 35 is for the likes of you and special jimmy and 100 for the rest of us.
How the hell else would mindless drones know what is safe if the government didn't tell you?

Do you think someone would have bought a bike that some people regard as the greatest sportsbike (Behind the GT250R :P), to go slow?

And no, the only reason most people here are listening to you, is not to hear you preach and take heed of your words. It is to laugh.

i am appauled by the group on thursday nights in particular. there are large sections of the road that are 80k ! past the kindy ! the straight after the church!

engage your brains the 80k area's are there for a reason and you are giving the rest of us that use these roads a really bad name.

it is impossible for some of us to safely exit our driveways on bikes or in cars with you idiots doing 140+ through blind sections of the road. the entry onto peak rd from SH16 is not a corner to get your knee down! it leads into the 80k area.

someone is going to get killed!

Actually, i think you may find that the thursday night riders are the WELL behaved ones.

Any kids still at the church at 9pm are already being watched reeeeeal closely by the priest.

Those one way bridges are mean, if you hit them at 160+ the bump in the middle will throw the front skyward almost to ballance point!
    Perhaps only on 750s...
