I mean, yes, there are some riders who ride far too fast on that road, a few have ended up walking home , a lot more have had their wallet dented.
The biggest problem I see on that road are push bike riders who show absolutely no consideration for other road users. I could not count the number of times I have come across groups of cyclists on Peak Rd riding 3 or even 4 abreast through the area in which the Dr was killed & the approach to Helensville. They want 1.5 m clearance which puts a motorcyclist on the wrong side of the road when passing them , or worse you find a car coming around a corner on your side of the road trying to pass cyclists.
More people will die on that road , some motorcyclists are at fault, a far greater number of push bike riders need to clean up their act.
yes push bike riders on the rd are damn dangerous. they really do need to sort their shit out. it is bloody scary coming across a bunch of them without expecting them to be there.
but i keep reminding myself on that rd, especially in the weekend that you have to be able to stop in the distance you can see. either in a car or on a bike.
that rd is going to claim more lives in my opinion. at least until the zoning changes and the whole north end of the rd turns into a 50km area.
but then people here will still speed in the 50k area and tell everyone that it is not their fault![]()
Not another speed limit reduction. Peak Rd is rural and should have speed limits as such. 50 KM on that stretch of road would be ludicrous and just inviting users to break the law. If speed limits are to be respected then they need to be appropriate. Taupaki Rd is another Rd with a ridiculous speed limit and an equally ridiculous intersection. A speed limit is the upper limit. You still ride/drive at a speed appropriate to the circumstances and conditions.
I follow the 50/50/90 rule.
Anytime I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right there is a 90% probability I will get it wrong
Would you prefer that the whole stretch of road before that was 35kmh? Perhaps they could put sign posts at suitable intervals back from the corner advising you of a max safe speed so that you know when to start braking in order to slow down for the 35kmh corner?
The simple rule that applies is that you should be able to stop in the visible distance in front of you. If you miss the fact that there is a 35kmh corner coming up, you are not paying enough attention.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
