Fishers/42nd/Old Whanga Rd - The Rerun

    calendar thingy here

Some of us were deeply bitter about a/ not being able to get to this ride and b/ the fact that everyone who did go seemed to have so much fun

    sooo...

On the weekend of 31st Oct and 1st Nov some of us want to have another go.

At the moment it looks like Andy_Mac, Bart, Pampara and I are keen but everyone else is more than welcome to come and join us.

I'll travel up on the Friday and if the weather is good and work cooperates hope to take Monday off as well.

There are some side tracks off the 42nd that are supposedly worth exploring (I'm hearing conflicting info about if we are allowed to stray off the main track)

If the DT isn't spread all over cnut hill I'll prolly take that and am really keen to do it all both ways...

Loose Plan for Friday - Wellywood to Taumaranui

Leave BP Paraparaumu at 9am - Coffee in Shannon - Gas at Ashurst if needed
Pohangina Rd - Finis Rd - Ridge Rd - Apiti - Main South Rd - Te Para Para Rd
via Karewarewa - Upper Kawhatau and a shit load of gravel to Taihape for lunch
Hang a left north of Taihape to Mataroa and onto Ruanui Rd then up Turakina Valley Rd to Rangiwaea Junction and west on Owhakura Rd to Bells Junction
then via Oruakukuru Rd - Otranui Rd - Pakihi Rd to Clowns Cafe in Raetahi for coffee

    Hmmmmm

Where ya staying on Saturday night, National Park or Taumaranui?

Will see closer to the time but I might have to put a knobbly on the back of the PD, maybe try out one of STAIN's T63's or something.

You putting a calender thingy up?

I vote for staying at Ohakune, or failing this, National Park - there is a choice of accomodation, plus good food and coffee.

Taumaranui probably makes most sense from giving people choice of accommodation although I'm easily swayed

would people prefer Owhango or National Park as per Michael's comment?

    OHAKUNE or National Park.
From a personal perspective no interest in Owhango - Taumarunui is certainly a better option if the choice is between there or Owhango. National Park has the advantage of being very central to the routes, we come back to it after each loop.

sorry - didn't read your post properly

Last time I tried to stay at Ohakune they tried to financially violate me as it was ski season. Ended up in Raetihi at way under half the cost.

I would never stay in Ohakune again just on principle - the bastards
