Might be nice for the ponsonby latt'e crowd tho???
that all we can have is an electric motorcycle...is the day I give them away.
Part of the love affair I have with bikes is the total feral response an internal combustion engine has when I wring it's neck. The sound...the smell...and knowing how it works. Stick to doing the vacuuming if you want to go electric.
I never realised how many clunks the sound of the engine covered up.
If the world of bikes goes electric I certainly will miss the sound of my Ducati.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

Only real issues I see for electric bikes is the ACC levy going up once someone has fallen off one... and then the power companys complaining the "roadies" are using all the power and its cost will have to quadruple or they will turn it off mid winter.
Not enough options on your poll Bogan!
Heres KTMs electric

Here's my electric:
Had it out for the first time this weekend, got it up to 110 km/hr downwind. Acceleration was poor, maybe similar to a postie bike, but a good start. Can only go quicker and faster from here.
One of the great things about electric bikes is that they are accessible to DIY mechanics. I built an electric bike (well, converted) in about 10 weekends with off the shelf components. Try building an ICE system in that time... It gets to me that things like fuel injection and CDI's have taken away the ability for the average man to build or maintain a (competative) bike and have left us bound to the big manufacturers. Electric is a way to get that back.
Matt, if you want to dick about with EFI, have a look at micro squirt. that will do everything that you want to with EFI on a bike.
I had a read of your site. Cool stuff! I would love to do the same thing to a dirt bike. What motor are you using BLDC? Zero are using a 17kw one. Where did you get all the parts from?
micro squirt ... I'll have a look, sounds like a good thing alright.
I've got a BLDC motor, rated at 3kW continuous. No idea what it'll do max, but I'm aiming for 48 V x 300 A, so 15kW. Got most of the components when I was living in China last year, but they're all available over the net.
I did think about doing a dirt bike, but the space constraints are tighter. Would be good though. If you're gonna do it anytime soon, I'd suggest headway lithium cells (can build your own battery pack to suit space) and an agni motor or two. If you leave it for a month or two, there'll be a whole 'nother set of components you'd want, things are moving really quick with EV components at the mo.
