    Auck-Kawakawa Bay-Loose metal spill (23 October)

Just got a ph call from a truckie mate who is also a KBr. He said to be wary of a bad loose metal spill on the rd APPROX 2 kms sth of Kawakawa Bay. Go thru K bay, get to the twisties that take ya up over the first hill and he reckons its right on the top on a left hander before you start going down the other side.

Said it doesn’t look like road works, more like a spill and there is a SHITLOAD all over the road with no warning signs posted…obviously.

Worth knowing about if you are out and about today or considering that road for a wee hoon tomorrow.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I went through there last week and there were lots of slips and a bit of clay on the road.

Much rather hit bits of clay than metal though !

    Thanks for the info.

Intend on riding back home that way from Coro Loop tomorrow. Good chance it would of been swept away by holiday traffic or roadworkers responding to the spill but will keep it in mind when passing through the bay....

Rode through there today and encountered the loose metal, definitely something to watch for.

    from th truckie

hey you all, the gravel on the road isn't actually a spill, more like an accumulation from the road itself but off the main line, in between the lanes, however it is gettin spread across the lanes by those that go in off line... just be wary, cheers

It's not on the tightest corner, the one where there is space for cars to pull over while bikes pass them.
