Angry Motorcycle parking, and cages hijacking our space

Bloody hell.....came into town tonight and 3 motorcycle parks that I regularly use have been hijacked by cars....I even talked to one driver and he just told me to eff off.....farkin dick....so called up the CCC and they did not wanna hear about it, as it was too late at night....I always try to use motorcycle parks myself whenever possible purely to free up car spots...in the future I wont give 2 hoots@!@!

After hours, motorbike parks become general parks.

I pulled up next to a guy parked in a motorcycle park and asked him if he was going to move. He looked at me and said "but I can't find a park". I said that was tough, but if he didn't move, I'd let down all four of his tyres and report him to the parking wardens! He moved!

I didn't know that - and it sucks. I bet taxi ranks don't suddenly become general parks after hours as well.

Be a wanker and abuse them, they'll move. Or fight. But what cager would fight with a nut in biker gear at night. Few.
You just just gotta be prepared to be a wanker.

Or leave a stiffly worded note under their windscreen.

On second thoughts, one dedicated loonie going around bike parks at night letting down car tyres would get news coverage, and perhaps discourage future cages in bike spaces. Might not be too good for the image of riders though. And if you got caught.

Sad, but true (here, at least.

Free motorcycle / scooter parking areas are available in central Wellington in locations signposted No Stopping Except for Motorcycles. Most of these areas are designated Monday - Saturday from 8.00am - 6.00pm. If there are additional restrictions or the areas are designated Motorcycle Parking at All Times, the signage will indicate accordingly.
Conversely (but can't be arsed finding the link right now) motorcycles are never allowed to park in the pay-and-display parks for cars (even if we pay...)!

And the motorcycle community gets shafted once again

I would never even think about parking my car in a motorcycle parking area...

Do they have a red border around the signs? I think they do, so they apply at all times. Without the red border (or a sign indicating the hours explicitly) it's open slather after hours.

If it worries you that much, see if you can get the council to put "At all times" (or some other specified times) on the signs.

Seeing as motorcycles park for free, does that also apply to cars parked in motorcycle parks after hours?

That's interesting. In Auckland motorcycles are allowed to use pay and display parks provided they pay and display. In addition, if you can park you motorcycle at one end of a pay and display block such that it is occupying a space that a car couldn't realistically use, then you are not required to pay and display.

Not sure, but most street car parking after hours is free anyway.
