Got it from McIver and Veitch in Dunedin - was $60-70 or thereabouts for a genuine KTM one. When I took off the cover I could see that the old one was starting to get a bit curved in the points so it was due for a change anyway but the back one looks fine at this stage.

As far as fuel useage goes - the fuel light has typically been coming on at around 250km for me unless I am adventure riding and giving it a bit where it will drop down into the 220's till the light. The best I have had was around mid 270's.
Bear in mind that I am also travelling with panniers much of the time and quite often 2 up and some of the time 2 up and well loaded - my cruising speeds are "sometimes potentially expensive" depending on mood and who I'm riding with (if anyone). With the gear change I am expecting to spend more time cruising at around 115-120 which the bike feels happier at now - we shall see

As far as which route to Auck - on the way up we need to go from wellie in 1 day so prob the most direct route. No plans yet for the return - hopefully we can make it a 2 dayer and use a different route and take our time and stop when we feel like it. We will make it up as we go

    cheers

Not sure If I have already said this but check out the SW-motech bars when looking for ideas. They have a brace between the two halves unlike other brands. Also the lowest forward mount is supposedly more rigid than the KTM style ones with a shorter length of tube between the crash bars proper and the mounting plate. I'll try and get photos this arvo.

If you are going to brace between crash bars, be careful to check clearance for the front wheel on full compression. That's part of the reason you dont see many 640s with them. On some versions (especially where teh forks were dropped thru the triple clamps) the front wheel touched the bracing bar and...

The other reasons had to do with weight & vibration...

Well I took the photos but didnt manage to get back to home computer and I'm at work now Tonight hopefully. And there is no issues with the brace and the front wheel/guard clashing (I've bottomed the front sus a few times).
