genuine kawasaki piston kits are only $280, (remember 05 rmz's are kawi's)
the cost will depending on what you want to do, it may be cheaper to buy a crank than to get it rebuilt depending on cost, i would stay away from the aftermarket cranks as we have had a few problems with them,
pm me with exactly what you are after and i can quote parts and labour if you need,
mainly had it with 2 stroke cranks, have been to scared to put it in the four strokes, less than 5 hours with 2 kx85 cranks, hot rods from memory, out of china, and less than 2 hours on a 250 2t as well,
not sure what casued the problem, suspect it was not enough oil flow and then caused heat, either by lack of slots in conrod (pro x rods had this problems on KX85's and 125's for a while) or they are pressed together to tight,
I put a prox rod kit in my ktm seems ok so far only 40 somthing hours though had herd at the time I did it the bearing they use isn't as good quality and the genuine one , the rod itself looked identincal though.
Gasket sets and rod kits for your bike can be had for slightly less than 130usd each plus post from the states .
It cost around 100 bucks to get my crank rebuilt and a couple of stuborn bearings pressed out by spectum.
280 for the genuine piston from scott sounds pretty good hard to do better than what the factory intended
Definitly best to pull it down before you start buying parts though.
Engines really arn't that hard to work on as long as you have a manual ,the money you would spend on labour for somone else to do it will pay for most of the tools you will need if you don't already have them.
