Can AMI's insurance quote be bettered ?

Got an XR650R arriving from Auckland to here in Ch-Ch

Only fully insuring bike to cover any damages while being freighted.

$561 is the quote from AMI for full insurance for a year, probably not to bad but can it be bettered ?

Any other options out there like "freight insurance" (think carrier only up to $1500)

    Cheerz

Bike insurance varies wildly from person to person, and from company to company. The only reliable way to know if you are getting a good deal is to get quotes from several companies.

That said, I have my car, and contents insurance with AMI, and because of the multi-policy discount etc their motorbike insurance rate was crazy cheap compared to everyone else. But that may not necessarily be the case for you. I sometimes wonder if they use a random number generator to come up with premiums

www.kiwibike.co.nz or 0800 629 253 <<< use the phone if it's urgent, they'll sort you out right away.

I've insured my last three bikes through them, luckily never had to make a claim, but all the people I know that have made claims have been sorted out very quickly, including one guy who wrote off two ZX-10R's in two weeks!

So basically AMI don't do "Transit Cover" then?

Contact a broker and ask them about "Transit Cover" for your bike!

    PM Jetboy perhaps?

Despite having four vehicles insured with them, plus our house, plus contents, AMI were suckful enough for bike insurance that I cancelled it and went with Kiwibike. Bikes seem to be an unwelcome evil as far as AMI and State are concerned - seems they'd rather not insure them. At least, that's the impression they give.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Try John Baker which is a broker for Star Insurance. No claims made yet but have only heard good things. My experience with Swann Insurance(IAG) has been below par.

AMI told me outright that I was wasting my time and they wouldn't be competitive quoting on a motorcycle.

They were right and knowing what I know now, they actually did me a huge favour!

besides total loss due to truck crash, fire or being stolen there is little that can break on a XR650R, even at 60k's they seem to just bounce. (yes its been tested)
I sent mine from Ch-Ch to Acks no insurance with a trusted bike mover..

Down to $419 with R6's kiwibike link cheers - had to do a triple take - what's kiwibiker doing insuring bikes I'm in dim light - only reason

Yeah I got the palm off from the sweet voice at AMI when I said "Its getting up there" - "We not competitive in the bike insurance market - pay to try elsewhere"

Probably a tag line like do you want fries and coke at MD's or peanut slaps chewing gum and what ever else in the range of the till at a mobil - like their pay at the pump

When and where did you sell your XR Sam - never seen it advertised - yeah strong bikes alright - good for wheelies eh

$419 "Sounds hard to beat !"

    Cheers

State way cheaper than AMI even though I have everything else with AMI and have had for years.

Beware guys, State are cheap but total cheap arses when it comes to making a claim; had my own history with them and heard plenty other stories about the bastards.

hmm never had a prob with any claims I have made through state .. sorted quickly & professionally

as an aside a work colleague had car insured with AMI & "agreed value" her daughter pretty much wrote it off the other day when deer jumped out in front of her .. the agreed value then was market value, so be aware if you do agreed value watch the small print .. $4g insured value was actually only worth $1,500
