Mt Biggs trail ride on ADV biggs

    Just throwing it out there,
This sunday, Mt Biggs, Sandon Rd, school fundraiser, near Fielding.
I'll be there on the DR650 with reasonably Knobbly T63's (I guess knobbly tyres would be useful for this one)
    2 50km loops, 1 morning, 1 afternoon.
    More details on silverbullet.co.nz
    Should be good fun.
Post up here if you are heading up (or down) on an ADV bike (trailers are for wimps!)

    Just me then...
looks like so could be fun on a big bike, remember adventure biking is taking innappropriate bikes to unlikely places...

Dont think I'll be completely by myself....
Just the only guy who rode there on the bike he went round on
Last trail I did was on a CRF250x so we'll see the difference on a DR650...

    could be

    or

Sure to be an adventure though!

    Yeah great ride,
no time to stop for photos though.
Real good, my kind of adv ride. Just enough challenges (I rode the A parts and not too hard)
Mostly rolling grassy paddocks, with some really good gullies to ride up, down and across, a cool few kms up the gravel on the rangitikea river. Awesome views and a HUGE lunch.
Some "weird" parts though - along the grass verges at the side of roads, then on the actual road, skirted a graveyard, and across some driveways.
All stuff that is hard to find on a single adv ride...
60kms in the morning and 40 in the pm.
Was buggered by the end of the day -ride up to sanson, trail ride, then back to pram - slept well!
I will be keen to do a few more of these - have to stick with T63 or similar knobblies
as the wet grass was a bit slippery in places Yep I had an "off" 80kph and lost the front (my fault - racing 2 guys on YZF450's)
    Damage?
1 indicator, bruised hand and written off pride!
Been meaning to get rid of the std rear indicators anyway...
Got some great looks from other riders when I passed them on the fully road legal DR650 Braaaaaaaap!
DR650's are officially the only bike you need to own - now who's for a motocross race?

Maybe the trail ride near Otaki on the 16th April (if thats the sunday? Maybe 17th?) I have a VMX race on the saturday in Wanganui so seeing as its the last round I may be a bitthe morning after...

Sadly the DR was built after 1985 else I may be tempted to race it at the VMX...

Think manawatu orion has some beach races coming up soon...

That Nelson / rabbit island beach race looked like great fun - on my list for next year...
In the meantime, manawatu orions beach races should be good

First is May 14th at Waiterere beach, also running a gravel hillclimb on the 15th....

Bugger all apart from that on the manawatu orion website, and nothing on silver bullet.

Be interesting to see what is cost all up for entry, day licenses, club membership etc? Sometimes, they waive parts of it for one off events...?

Any club members reading this may know more?

This beach racing thing has got me interested. I think I'd suck at it, but shit it would be funny.

Nailed in 4th in the chopped up soft stuff and you think you're going to come a serious cropper. But you realize when people fall off, it's in the lower speed corners with the front washing out.

Still freaks me out thinking about it.
    Hmmm...
    Drag racing at Easter...
