    Alternative form of protest. Comments?

What if one was to pay the ACC levy componant of their rego in cash? I mean, small cash ... like $1 coins. You rock up to pay your rego "here's my cheque for the $50 for rego part, and here is $270 in $1 coins for the ACC Levy.
Yeah, annoying for the poor teller admittedly. (Buy them a box of chockies to say sorry). Annoying to have to wait until it's counted too but hey, protest involves sacrifice sometimes.

Now multiply that a few times if you can organise a bunch of bikers to do it at the same time at the same PostShop and it becomes noticeable. Get a heap of bikers to do it at the same place and time and advise the media that there will be a novel form of protest at a particular place and time and you might just get some traction out of it.

Perfectly legal and I believe that as cash is legal tender it cannot be refused (although IRD have refused to accept cash in the past I believe). This scheme ranges in usefulness from a single man protest if done alone up to a publicity stunt if done en-masse. And it's the gift that keeps on giving as we can do it now and if levies do rise we can keep on doing it into the future.(Just don't pick a PostShop with a coin-counting machine.

How does this affect ACC, they still get the money paid into their bank account you know, all you're doing there is causing problems for the post shop person.

Only legal tender up to $100 I believe, so they'll just tell you to sod off (politely)!

I think silver coins are legal tender up to $5?

    Looks like it wouldn't work.

But good thinking. We need lots of ideas.

How about going to the $2 dollar shop and buying two calculators.
One for Nick Smith and one for the CEO of ACC.
Print off a copy of their sums that don't add up and post it to them.

Then they can at least add up the numbers properly when interviewed.

They could have small Bikehoi logos on them so when they are sitting at their desks thinking who to shaft next they can rember the day hundreds of bikes decended on Wellington demanding justice and fairness for " paying road users"

    rant over.

Wouldn't hurt ACC at all ... just a way of getting publicity if done as a media stunt... exactly what the Bikoi are doing.

I like the idea. It would be a ongoing protest. And as you say, it can be used as publicy stunt at any time. It would not affect ACC directly but it would clearly send the message that bikers are not OK with the rise in ACC levy.

Other ideas that pop in to my head:

    - A poll of how many bikers will change who they vote for as a result of the higher ACC levies. No need to say who they voted for in the past or who they will vote for, just a message that if the ACC levies are raised there will be a change. (I know there is a thread re this, but if it was done on a bigger scale and the results made public then it could send a clear message, as long as the outcome would be the expected...)

    - Each time National, Maori Party or ACT hold a conference there would be a bunch of bikers parked outside with their message. Would get high publicity.
    Here ACT: http://www.act.org.nz/events
Maori Party: Can't see any planned ones. But here their website: http://www.maoriparty.org/index.php
National: You can "filter" their events: http://www.national.org.nz/Events/Ev...=2%2f12%2f2009

    - A one/two pager with all the actual facts re how they are trying to misslead us in this. Then get that leaflet in to every household. Could be done through KB site, HOG, Ulysses, rallies, competition days etc.

    - Have a protest rally when the government is holding a important whatever; visitor from overseas, opening of something, announcment etc.

    Head hurts. Need a rest.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

I like the idea of full page ads. There is hardly any point in "us" complaining and protesting as everyone sees it as "them that has to pay being upset at paying". If the facts can be presented clearly and concisely that might start questions from outside the biking fraternity. Provided of course that said facts don't actually support the increase. I'm thinking the only real avenue of protest is along the lines of what ACC's ideals were at the beginning and what was intended, versus what is being foisted on us now.
