    My ride at Kimmy's

Kimmies was cool, but seeing as I live on the shore, it's a long way to go for a Sunday ride on a clay track tho'.

Fire break riding is fun although I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I was still riding the little KX125. The KTM just powers up and down the deep gullies with imperial ease and you can do so much more with it in that kind of terrain. Hairiest moment I had was hitting the submerged bridge too hard and the front wheel slipping out from under me on the slippery wood. I hung on waiting the faceplant but somehow momentum got me outa trouble.

Tawny gained a lot of confidence on the peewee track, being clay, and even managed the enduro loop as far as the lookout. She said the peewee track is too easy and the enduro loop for the first 4km was good but the rest just too hard for her. Her little KX60 just doesn't quite have enough herbs to pull her up the steep gullies without hitting them fully tapped out in 1st.

Kimmies is a good track to get ready for the summer farm rides. I'll post a video of my virgin ride on the enduro loop up on Facebook shortly.

To sum up, because I'm a Shorey, I reckon The Sandpit has a lot more to offer for the whole family, especially seeing as Tawny can ride most of the trails apart from the big dipper.

Interestingly its 5 k's closer for us than the sandpit.
    Noobie/Flying CR250/K6K/Phil/Myself ,Had a good day there

I had a monumetal off, luckily landed in the swamp ….

Near the finish, steep downhill with a steep jump half way down, and the lake at the bottom on the left hand side.

Came down the hill thinking it was flat, gave it some jandal, realised there was a jump……..went over the jump way too fast, landed safely (WTF)…..panicked and lost control , rode off the right hand side into the long grass filled drain, the bike dug in to the wet ground and I went over the handlebars ……splat into the mud…..very lucky , if it was anywhere else I would have smashed myself up.

Just picked the rear of the bike up and turnmed it round, lecky start , powered it out of the drain …

    Phew …

    Pure skill I think ...LOL

Its definatly smoother than last time we were there and yes, its nice to ride on real terrain not gay sand ....

    New Bike AWESOME !

looks like cheese was right, better to be alittle cautious, on the first loop, sounded like you all had a good day, must get my sorry ass out there.
Had and awesome ride on the Buell, Saturday after the ACC rally/ protest,
so thought better be a good boy and stay home do the lawn and abit of home maintenance.
Why would you ride that long and that gnarly stuff if you don't have to, Its what we do, we love it.

There is always something new out at kimmies. So best to take a scout lap first. that MX track has a few nasty surprises too. I agree with you though Evan, its a once or twice a year visit unless you're really into MX.

the only reason i go so much is cause i only live 15 mins away, and zooming round on the mx track is a good change from the usual trees and tree roots etc..

Cheers for the test ride on your bike! have to agree, it is an awesome bike. I had already decided on a 300 without even riding one. I just had peoples opinions (highly rated) on the bikes and a very short ride on another 250. I really should have pushed a dealer for a demo but I have had a bit of trouble getting them to call me back...
Thanks again, now after a proper ride on yours I am 10x more excited about it and have to have one.
I am working over in Perth for a couple of days and managed to have a quick look at the local KTM dealer. They had 3 or 4 of each of the new 2010 KTM's lined up and what looked like all the powerparts and accessories available. It was a far cry from local Auckland dealers anyway.

No worries, to be honest If I had riden one of these 2 years ago , I think I would have got one then.
No noticable powerband and stupidly grunty breaks....and the lightness is out of this world compared to my last bike.
Just need to work out how to drive it properly.

To be honest I haven't noticed the increase in weight from the 87kg KX to the 113kg KTM. What I do enjoy is not sitting on a jack hammer bouncing all over the track! I wonder if the increase in weight has something to do with the lack of that?

probably a combo of the weight smoothing things out and suspension set up to absorb bumps not tackle big doubles without bottoming out

congrats on the new bikes one day I will go to kimmys and see wha tall the fuss is about

Thanks yeah I am rapt with it. I think the WP suspension is set up well....better than the KX anyway! I noticed on the Sandpit the other day the shock would start to pack after about the 5th successive whoop, but before then it tracks really well.
