Hey if they want to use engine size for us why not on cars as well.I see it the same way a little 1300 Corolla or a Club Sport Holden or a Tickford Falcon is it, boy big difference in power. Vern

ACC have only mentioned this cc rating to get feedback, dont be fooled they have no idea that most GSXR600 cc bikes etc, are the fasted bikes between two given points in most situations in NZ
If you wanted to hold a race around the Coro loop, I would put my money on a 600cc sports bike.
They are incredibly fast and can outhandle the bigger guys.
They are they way to go in future.
Look at Europe because of the insurance costs, 600cc are the sensible bike to buy..
Having said this I dont see why you should crash less on a 600 than a 1000.
As long as ACC is fooled who cares.
There must be some logic to it that Im not aware of.
How do you think I feel about my 1980 850cc Moto Guzzi or a 1970 650cc Triumph...
These guys (ACC) are mad....
Looking on E-Bay for a KLR600 cylinder. Put it on, get the bike re-vinned as a 600, then put the 650 barrel back on but with a Schnitz Racing 705 kit in.
Does the bike have to be running to get vinned? If not, i wouldn't bother getting it running as a 600 - put the barrel on, push it to VTNZ, get the paperwork and push it back home again.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Agreed.
They should make it license based... as I can only drive / ride one of my vehicles at a time but NOOOOO... that smacks of common sense.
So they decide my 74hp (at the crank and brand new out of the factory) 5 year old SV650 (which has probably lost a few ponies, so older bikes should be cheaper ayway) is safer than my mates 129hp R6.

Hmmmm... can I re-register my bike as an RC46 instead of a VFR800?
That would make it a moped, right?
I haven't actually had the displacement certified anyway - it might be 581cc instead of 781...![]()
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
“- He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.”
Nope I ride a 20 year old bike I scratched togeather from a wreck plus parts bought off Trade me,I make $35,000 a year, support my family on my wage alone, have a 12 month budget I stick to like religion, will own my home free hold in only another 12 years,,I'm bloody rich as mate.
So I think I'll just carry on reguardless,,and I'd never run from the cops either,,that would just ruin my budget.
The injustice of it all ?,,,well I live in NZ aye,it's really not so bad here.
Problem is just because it came from the factory at said specs doesn't mean it still is. Take my 250cc NSR, factory restricted to 45hp, unplug one cable and is now in the 60's, same region as my old mans 850 Eldorado.
ACC's CC rating has nothing to do with safety, its just another means in which to rake in more money in a short period of time to try and bridge this apparent epic debt.
Yesterday is history tomorrow is a mystery today is a gift!
Good bye Street Triple 675...
Frosty. That's fucking brilliant.
Well done Frosty.
Now that's a great headache to be created.
For the moment let's assume that I, for example, can show my bike is actually 598ccs. I go into the Post office to reregister and note the 'fault' on the 'current' rego data asserting my bike is 600ccs (of pure grunt, may I add).
The dumb broad behind the counter squalks, 'No Sir. It says here 600.'
'Sorry dear. See this spec-sheet? It says 598ccs. See it says this bike....my bike...is 598 ccs.'
Stay with me here, people. This is fantastic protest point.
Imagine. You're in the Post-shop teller's face. You say one thing, her records say another. Folk behind are getting pissed at having to wait. You're holding up the traffic. You have, clutched in your resolute hand, a spec sheet which asserts your bike is 598ccs.
You ain't moving till the manager comes out. The teller flees. Out comes the manager. He'll be (probably) an Indian making a shit-load of dosh, facing a growing line of pissed customers.
What are his options? Hold the 600cc party line? Nup. That won't work because you are also holding the 598cc line...his line. His dollars.
To an Indian, losing dollars is worse than being beaten to death with a ham.
Don't get me wrong here. I admire Indians for their work ethic and smarts.
But he has a problem. You with your specs and him with his computer records and a growing line of annoyed money givers.
What does he do? Concede? Maybe. Ask you to come back later? Probably.
But he doesn't concede because he can't, and you won't come back later.
Next step?
He's off for a conflab with some authority.
'Good morning Sir. I'm am having some terrible troubles with a man who says his bike is just 598 ccs' and on he goes.
The putz at the other end of the line has no idea what he's on about.
Half an hour later the Indian manager, having watched God knows how many dollars annoyingly walk away, and him getting close to a heart attack on the strength of it, might just concede.
Probably not. So you concede. The manager sighs with relief.
But his relief is short-lived, you see, because the next guy in line is your biker mate. And around it goes again.
Three bikers per small Post Shop could bring the place to a standstill for the day. Ten bikers per any post shop, all on the same day (they all communicate) would cause mayhem.
And believe me, there is no greater source of misery and therefore reaction than an Indian business owner being dicked out of one cent, much less hundreds of dollars of unearned, while you stand there holding up the queue.
Frosty! That's pure fucking brilliance.
Here's a way to involve the ordinary man in the street in our plight.
Hold up the queues. Piss off the Indian managers. Get in everyone's face.
While you're there waiting, you can turn and give a speech to the gathered throng. Tell them about how they, as car drivers, are being ripped off with ACC levies. Remember. One fifth of one percent of all ACC claims came from ALL registered road users.
And so easy to do.
But here's the great bit. We can all do this right now, BEFORE try to up the prices.
Believe me, if 100 bikers visited a Post-Shop owned by an Indian, tomorrow, by the day after the system would be screaming in the background.''Indians losing money are a great ally."
But it takes some bikers to go in there and create a scene.
You up for it, or are you a couch commentator?
Me? I'm up for it....if for no other reason than to watch the Indian spew.
Tell us, Frosty. Where do I get the spec for 598ccs?
Answer that and I'll be down there doing this rerego tomorrow. And then I shall report back on the results.
Only 'Now' exists in reality.
