    MP breaks ankle cycling

    Page A4 in todays Harald.
National MP Nikki Kaye (central Auckland) swerved her bicycle to avoid a car passing to close, fell off & broke her ankle. She is expected to be in plaster & on crutches for six weeks. Would any of her constituents care to ask her what the ACC cost of this accident will be & broach the subject of cyclists paying their way to indulge in an inherently dangerous pastime on public roads? Just to add balance to ACC's recent proposals of course.

And this was clearly a single vehicle driver fault accident

Blaming other road users for getting injured and "making them pay" is what got us into this pickle. Pointing the finger at someone else isn't going to get us out again

I'm already paying $400 odd a year to ACC for road going vehicles, but if I jump on my bicycle, I'm accused of freeloading and not paying my fair share
The road to hell is paved...

I'm not sure if your talking about the MP or the car driver in the first part of your post but with regard to jumping on your bicycle I cannot see any way in which cyclists can be levied & don't think they should be.
I posted this, admittedly a bit tongue in cheek, because we are facing increased levies primarily because of our vulnerability in an accident, very much on a par with cyclists. Just demonstrating (again, sorry!) that we could soon be a victimised minority because we are an easy revenue target, not because we are a drain on the ACC.

If Phil Goff is looking for a good question to use in parliament, this would be a great starter before going into questions on ACC/bike stuff.

I heard that the car driver did nothing wrong.

The car swerved too close to her as it was avoiding a potential collision with a 1000cc NOISEY motorcycle (somewhere in another town).

The car driver didn't get the make or rego of the naughty motorcyclist (who should be quite rightly priced off the road in order to save countless lives); but says that it was at least a 1000cc one.

AND this (and anything that happens to anyone any time any place anywhere) is why motorcyclists should pay more.

    Game set and match!
