Exert your talents, and distinguish yourself, and don't think of retiring from the world, until the world will be sorry that you retire. -Samuel Johnson
I like my Paekakariki medium to well done with a little cracked pepper and sweet fruit chutney.
In summer the Paekakariki hill, it can be a little dodgy with all of the leaves, moss and crap in the winter and autumn. Is the intersection at Paekakariki end still a shocker?
In winter the 'tukas....

I also like Ohariu through to Makara then Karori. You have to be careful between Ohariu and Makara with gravel and other road debris. There can be the occasional 4wd taking up more than it's share plus cyclists who wander over the road panicking as they hear you approach. Road isn't as smooth as the Rimutaka road but makes it more interesting / keeps you on your toes (especially when you have crap suspension).

Yeah, I think the "interesting" factor is why I like it so much.
Not just fast corners but a few little sharp (like u turns) bends to keep you awake. Oh and lets not forget the obligatory boulder on blind corners, MAF 4wd nutters and horses. Definately a good place to learn how to react to the unexpected (or the expected in this case).
Most unexpected thing that has happened to me is birdstrike by the bird off the electricity ads - the one that turns the lights off, don't know what they are called - that one was definately not expected.
Paekakariki is horribly dangerous. I kinda like the Wainui coast road, actually.
Signature needed. Apply within.
Bwahahaha, I can't believe there's a discussion as to whether 24.6kays of road or 14 kays of road is the best.
Go for a real ride one day. Three hours on the ferry and you've got the worlds best motorcycling roads right there.

I was just down there Jimmy. I liked the strech from Balclutha to Alexandra.
Good condition and really predictable corners with a mix of tight and fast bends.
Shame i was in a car
As for the Lindis Pass , bland , boring and just too patrolled for the reason you stated. Kaikoura is good but i got a nasty wave from a H/P car for doing 105kmh on a passing lane so i cooled down.
Paul.
