I saw Nick on nightline tonight.
Looking all smug and conceited as though he was congratulating himself on the great work he's done to reduce ACC claims around fireworks.
With ACC we got compensation for accidents regardless of fault and in return we lost our right to sue right? Well at least that's what I thought.
But apparently there's more to it than that.
Apparently it also meant I lost my right to do what I want to do, my right to be me.
Yesterday I lost my right to adventure playgrounds, we all agreed, we have to look after the kids right, after all parents can't be expected to can they.
I lost my right to fireworks (ok, ok certain ones) today, sure, who needs senseless loss of digits and sight etc? I'll tell you who, Darwin, that's who.
Tomorrow I lose my right to motorcycles. Let's face it they're dangerous and look, they're at the top of the list.
what's next? Where does it stop?
We already know it won't stop right.
Each time they succeed in "fixing" the big problem, then due to attrition, something else on the list becomes the big problem and therefore must be dealt with right, you can't just leave it can you, after all it's the big problem.
I look forward to them completing the list. We'll all sit around wrapped in cotton wool and fed just the right amount of nutrients from a IV drip. Wont that be fun? Think of all the money we'll save. We'll all be so much better off that we'll be able to send all of our MP's to Paris for a holiday at our expense.
It's not the money that concerns me, it's not the motorcycling per se either. This erosion of the social fabric of our society must be stopped.
