In interesting point is that only Sergeants and above have unlimited access to the internet through work PC's. You can't help what other people send you through the e-mail system though. Best to delete any naughty stuff you receive once you have taken a quick glance at the material to make sure its something that shouldn't be on the system.

    Kind of sad, really.

Still, what kind of mug accesses porn on the work computer?

I would probably think Spudchucker has the good oil on what's happening. Looks to me like the frontline police are too busy to go anywhere near this.

Sounds to me like typical middle-management SNAFU's...

Hope you don't loose too many workmates out of this one guys - you jobs may just be getting a bit harder for the next few months - and god help us all if the pollies decide to "do something about it".

I'd be really surprised if the cops involved do not get fired at the minimum. Cos if they don't then all the employment lawyers will have a new legal precedent to play with.

Got to say it sounds a bit witch-hunterish to me. I work in IT and I can say for certain that most people have a bit of dodgy stuff (not talking serious bukkake goatse here, just "inappropriate")on the PCs. (Oddly enough the chicks are often worse than than the guys )

Cops are human , 330 out of how ever many thousand isn't that many.

How much of the "horror, disgusting, sack 'me all" righteous indignation is really a bit of "oh good here's a chance for us to get a bit of our own back, and see a cop get a telling off".

Would we really care if it was 330 bank tellers instead ?

No. But thats the point. (I'm fence-sitting on this btw, I don't know enough of the facts relating to the case. But the general point is that it is the Police.)

Boy, those police can't get a break, they take it from the front, side and rear , some may be their own doing, but lets face it. Porn is not a huge taboo anymore, depending on what it is (esp. kiddies, animal etc). Most sectors of the work force have it, and mates send it to each other for a laugh.

They certainly aren't too clever accessing it on a work computer, since most companies/institutions/departments log all traffic.

However, the people doing the sacking need to be careful. A lot of places don't have rules covering internet usage, and I don't know what the police have. If you don't have rules, then it is harder to fire people for a breach, since it is technically not a breach of any rules...

Well, yes. But they're not **morals** police. (I'm assuming here that none of it was actually illegal-level stuff, kiddie porn etc.If any of them were silly enough to be caught with that then they deserve to go for a very high jump) .

The police have to be seen to be obeying the law. If they don't they (rightly) get come down on harder than Joe Public.

But pornography, "feelthy peectures" etc , is not,per se, illegal. They're policemen not choir boys. They took an oath to enforce the law, not an oath of chastity.

Big deal, so 330 police force had porn on their email. With a total staff of just over 10,000 this means 3.3% of the staff were busted. Fuck it's an epidemic.

Keep in mind a "snapshot" of the email system was taken and then looked at. Given you can't control what people email you I wonder how many officers simply hadn't checked their email for a couple of days or were a bit slow on the delete key.

Employers provide computers, email and Internet access as business tools. Storing objectionable material hardly qualifies as legitimate business use.

They're coppers, not florists. World needs to accept that when you get several thousand red blooded blokes (and chicks) there will be a bit of racy stuff around.

They have internal disciplinary systems to deal with anyone who gets caught breaching policies (as do most companies). And some common sense as to when to apply them.

It doesn't need to be blown up into a national scandel

Sheesh, is there anyone on this site who doesn't have a few Playboy's/Playgirls (as appropriate) tucked away somewhere ?

Yeah I don't care what the coppers do in their own time on there home computers the fact is that they used company resources to do it. Anyone dumb enough to look up porn on company computers where their internet usage can be tracked is pretty dumb, but for them to also save it just shows how thick they really are. I thought most companies would take a fairly severe line to this sort of behaviour on company computers in company time.

It involved bestiality so I'd suspect someone named Dog, to be honest.
There was no vegetable sex to my knowledge. :spudwave:
So just what do you call vegetable sex - beetiality maybe?
