Brake Declaration for re-rego

Anyone know how to do a brake declaration for a bike with no specs available? I've got an early 70s indian-made vespa clone which has been on the road before, but for re-registration needs a brake declaration form comparing current brake measurements with the originals. Is my only option to do a deal with the testing guy where I offer to buy reputable brakes from a reputable dealer?

I guess someone has been through all this before me - how come it's not on the LTSA website?

Thanks, but I think that you might be a bit out of my way. I've haven't been able to convince any of the local shops to do the declaration without having proof of original specs. Out of interest how do you measure the drum ovality? calipers & spin to see if it binds on one side?

Couple of things none of them helping with your question becouse I havn't a clue. Welcome to the site and congradulations on being the 2000 member to join. Couple of Christchurch member on here might be able to point you in the proper direction. Just might take them a while to notice.

LOL, yeah whatever..... Dunno, mate. Have you been to VINZ and asked them? WE import cars and do our own compliance stuff but god knows what you would do with that. If it has been reg in NZ before that must surely be of some help. Worst case scenario, you won't be able to register it, does happen, I guess.....

You should be able to measure that with one of them dial gauges - the ones that you use to true things up on a lathe.

We did the brake compliance on the BM using figures from the arse end of nowhere. Just put down something that seems sensible, get it stamped/signed with a company name on it and they should accept it. The only real reason for it seems to be so they can pass the blame onto someone else should the brakes fail soon after the re-registration.

Looks like Motorcycle Restorations on St Asaph St can do it for all sorts of old-skool bikes. Fingers crossed for Tuesday.

mine was first rego but second hand bike. they made me get the declaration done at a bike shop. cost over 300 bucks. chances are they will expect you to buy brand new pads.
