[QUOTE=Dakar;1129511104]Are the dates set in stone yet? i am keen, but did have me heart set on a few days down south, not to throw a spanner in the works tho, but Mungatapu, Rainbow etc, anyone?

Yes indeed - I hadn't thought of Mungatapu but was definitely pondering Rainbow & Molesworth around that time, so happy to look at.

then again, maybe a two week trip down south in Feb when the weathers better, hmmmm, all this thinking sometimes hurts
I haven't done rainbow & molesworth yet. If you end up going down in Feb let me know an I may be able to tag along for a few days, depending on timings.

The Rainbow opens 28th December till 1 April, there is a toll gate half way through, i cant rember whether it was $20 each or $10 each but we only had $20 between the three of us and looked poor so they let us off,

They let Jatz thru both ways for the $15 fare. I think it is only for 24hrs though so you could leave & return from either end if you so desire. This was at the gatekeepers discretion tho.
BTW if you decide to stop for a while at the gate take some insect deterrent.
