    New rego and other stuff

I don't know where this thought belongs but it seems that there are a few riders that mainly ride weekends or have multiple bikes. So riding for many is arguably a hobby or sport that is undertaken on the roads. Support for this argument can be taken from the dramatic increase in bike numbers in the weekend.

What I'd really like is a new type of motorcycle rego. One that recognised this. So that would be a rego that applied on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

So my main bike would be rego'd year round and the others would take the limited form of rego.

Right now with the proposed increase (which I don't expect to happen) I'd just put rego's on hold and take my chances on getting a ticket.

While I think about it we haven't really asked how many riders do it as a hobby / sport and I'm curious what the number would be. That seems to be another point to argue. ACC have already come up with a low average kilometre thing and therefore in that case the new rego seems disproportionate to low use hobby stuff. (My case would be high use hobby). So if motorcycling is an amateur sport of sorts then that should be recognised and treated differently.

Would Bronz be interested in lobbying for a new type of Rego for this purpose?

The other stuff. I'd like to see the moped fee unchanged. Mopeds were intended to apply to a cc rating and a power output. I think's it's fair to say that most scooters that are registered in this category shouldn't be. So moving them to the correct category achieves the same income result for ACC. It then leaves the genuine moped as it should be.

    Any thoughts on the above?

I'd be in for that. Also one that applies to nice-weather days only :-)

That would mean the gubbinment would lose out on money (what it is ALL about, eh!) so it would be pushing guano uphill.

Just put it on the individual. If some nancy-boy dosen't ride in the wet, they have to use a vehicle of a different description instead.
You can only crash one vehicle at a time.

Isn't there already a rego for those that do under 5000km/year?

    Who're you calling a nancy-boy, chimp-face. I didn't know there was a <5000km rego. Need to investigate that.

Thats all part of the submission process. But at the end of the day they require the money...

which is why it probably better to have the levy on traffic infringements small one on wofs, and one on when you sell or by a vehicle as well as fue lbetween them that should make more than enough on the traffic account and you could just about drop the levy on the rego

I like the idea of buying road miles like for diesel vehicle
It is made of steel, has gears and can go on the motorway - yes even over the harbour bridge

Buy rego for the afternoon online or by SMS before going for a ride.
They can't argue against it-you're are only at risk when you are actually traveling

    They will argue
eg if the reccession deepens and you dont ride they dont get any money. They want guaranteed money.
although if you dont ride you wont have an accident so they dont need your money.

main issue is proof of what KMs you do
think about it getting accurate KMs of all types of bikes and stopping tampering
maybe there are devices that can do this cheaply?

    New rego?
    I'd like a new bike.
But then again, I barely ride the one I've got now, thanks to The Evil #2Son.
Perhaps I should resign from KiwiBiker and sell it. Then I can become One of Them, and hassle all you selfish bikers, moaning about how much your expensive toys cost.

As The Evil #2Son would say: "Waah."
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
