Digital cameras were thin on the ground when I tried novice racing but I gave it a go in the late 70s. It was the 410 production class and a couple of mates all fresh from high school formed a team so someone could come last and make the winners look good. Only ever raced at Ruapuna and Levels. Mike Pero was the only name I can remember and all we aimed to do was not get lapped by him and the other guns with race bikes. Bit tough when your bike has to get you to work on Monday and you're still paying it off. Gave it a go though, had fun and learned a bit on the way. Best I every finished was fourth and that was only because an oil spill dropped the front half of the field (about 10 bikes went down in front of me all at once in slow motion, strange to watch). Only pics I've got are from track days and I wont bore everyone with them. Any experienced racer would blitz me at the track. I know my limitations too.

Was passed by one out at Manukau yesterday morning, spotted it miles away as it came up through the traffic, being riden two up. Very visable with the paint job.
Speed limits are just a suggestion, like pants.

Saw one on Mt Eden Rd in the morning rush hour sometime ago. Really made me look hard at it....... looks really cool and sporty..... the contrast from the dark blue/black and bright orange needs to be seen to be believed.

It's pretty simple. You ride as fast as you want. I ride as fast as I want. None of us owes anyone excuses or an explanation. Except those guys with flashing lights. They seem to like explanations.
Now give your keyboard a rest. I'm ducking out for a night ride without anyone's permission.
