Do you think 6000 bikes on this ride is achievable? I'm hoping so but think half that number would be more likely due to the weekday date and possible inclement weather . Don't get me wrong I'll be there as I was for the Ulysses manukau meet but was surprised that there were so few at that meet and it was on a beautiful sunny saturday.

We need to remember the police are not our enemies so we should respect them. They are merely doing their jobs like the rest of us slaving away doing ours. We are going to parliament to get our voices heard and as it has been said if we do anything STUPID which encumbers just about everything other than standing there the thousands of bikers coming from all corners of the country will be a waste of time.

The media will portray us as a bunch of idiots and the idiots in cages will hate us more than they do at the moment. And if they don’t hate us they will lose respect for us. We have a god-forsaken cause we are trying to promote. Take a page from Gandhi passive protest is the most effective type of protest out there. If we want to be noted positively ACT ACCORDINGLY.

If anything turns into anything like a riot I am walking away because I refuse to be part of something like that we are a democracy why don’t we act like one even if the govt isn’t. We will show them how people are apposed to this by standing up and being counted.

    I have said enough.

We've been told alright. I'm not going to argue. Would hate to be accused by our detractors of infighting in the ranks.

    But would Chuck Norris wave?

Or would the planet just shake back and forth for him?

As someone who has been active in protests (both peaceful and otherwise), and been asked to "move along", and has also been put down by our friends in blue (who are just doing their job) since 1984. I have a couple of insights I would like to offer:

Those that "talk it up" the most when it comes to "not following the protest guidelines" are never in it for the long haul- they want some "biff", excitement, or they just want to shit stir. I have seen the police wade in to a peaceful vigil because one (yes one) egg was thrown.

Speaking from experience, the organizers have done an incredible job- esp. given the diverse nature of views and opinions we all share. We have one chance to get this right, the media and govt would get good mileage out of ride that went to custard. The media want the next headline and lead story- lets all decide to give the only one option: a good one.

The majority of people that turn up on a protest march just follow the person in front- they are often aware of the starting point, but very few ever know where they will be ending up. All the "lone rangers" who are talking doing there own thing, can do their own thing some other time- although experience dictates that they probably wont even try.

Look forward to riding with you all on Tuesday.

    Moderators note

This thread is starting to get out of hand. I would ask everyone to tone it down.

The organisers are doing a great job, and if anyone disagree's with what they are doing then I would ask that you make a positive alternative suggestion, or organise your own protest ride. Any more outbursts like the 17 messages I've just moved to PD and this whole thread will go there as well.
    Time to ride
