    Tourism ACC Levies

Has anyone seen this in the Herald today?

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10608719

It seems that they have the one standard answer for all "proposed" levy increases.

ACC said it had spoken to tourism groups and was aware of their concerns that the proposed increases were large and unpalatable.

"However, the levies collected from tourism operators, like many others, have for some years been less than required to cover the true cost of injuries in that sector," said general manager Keith McLea.
Is this line all he knows?

This bit is my favourite tho!

"The best way for these businesses and others to reduce levy costs is to reduce the number of accidents." :slap:

No other country pays for injured tourists. Want to go (there)? Get insurance. Why should NZ be any different?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Not sure of this, but I imagine it was probably devised as added impetus/incentive to attracting the almighty tourist dollar to this far flung little corner of the world.

By the way, I'm not defending/advocating it... just offering a plausible scenario.

Motorcyclists have reduced their accident rate massively.

Twice the number of registered bikes on the road than 2003. 2/3rds the number of injury accidents.

Telling tourism operators to reduce accidents is just another big fat ACC lie. They'll hike the price irrespective of a change in behaviour from Tourism operators.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I wonder what our Minister of Tourism will have to say about these levy increases.

    Indeed.
A wee story for you all...
A friend of mine has a mate from the Czech republic. This chap came here on a 2 year work permit. 3 months into it, he was injured and couldn't work. Onto compo, and 15 months later he is still on it. I imagine that in a further 6 months, his work permit will expire and he'll toddle off back to whence he came.
    What a lark. For him.
