If you can't afford $500-1000 knee brace I'd like to point you in this direction again, rather then just buying knee guards.

Best protection I have discovered for the money as per my earlier post.

Is above a knee guard not a real brace but the Closest thing to a knee brace with spending the big bucks.

    Just a thought!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

Now thats ideal for those of us who just trail ride on the odd occasion, I currently use EVS knee guards which Im happy with, but would look at those.
if anything I need lite boots, as my fly 805s good boots, but bloody heavy try holding them up in a turn, if they hit the ground broken knee.
Why would you ride that long and that gnarly stuff if you don't have to, Its what we do, we love it.

Maybe you got a bad batch?

whittle, how much did you pay for them lol? the custom ones are 2.5k for one lol. Dont tell me you paid 5k on knee braces... Are the off the shelf ones or did you have to get them measured up by a specialist to fit?
I paid 550 haha fit me perfectly.

I run Pod's now. I used to use EVS SX02 but man they were average braces. I paid about $300 a leg and it was a waste, went through 2 pairs. The only real support from them was the metal rods running down the side, I fell off through a rut , didn't even strain the brace and it gave out. Bent and twisted.

I have used the pods for awhile now and I am very happy with them. I can even wear them without socks that's how comfortable they are.

I would suggest, as an avid rider, to an avid rider to spend up a bit cause the hassle of a fucked ACL isn't worth it.

I remember someone mentioning ages back they got ACC to cover some of the cost of their knee guards. I think I remember asking about it then, but I have a memory like a sieve, so how do you go about doing that? Doctor referral or something? I'm seeing my physio tomorrow and will ask him too. Something about it being cheaper for them to pay for guards than shell out for more surgeries.
Chiming in as a fool who should have had decent knee braces all along. I'm dreading going through the waiting game with MRIs & stuff again. $500 is a bunch of cash but it'd be worth spending to not be back where I was two or so years ago with a botched knee. Ugh I just want my stupid appointment done so I can know when I'm ok to ride/lift/run again! I used to be so patient, once after almost of year of physio to get my knee OK, I'm so so gutted I've hurt it again. Wear braces if you can afford them...

I got a CTi custom covered by ACC. Wasnt cheap to, over 2k. I think I was pretty lucky to get it. My specialist helped me to get one. A mate of mine is currently trying to get ahold of a CTi through my same specialist. He's done the same ACL/MCL injury as well.. We're both out of racing for a while Least I can save up for a sexy bike!!

Cool stuff, I'll chat to the phys and get him to ask my surgeon guy (I know these people way too well...) about it

I had blown my knee out at DS this year as i said earlier. i wanted to get a ride or two before TB but didn't want to fuck my knee again so went out on Fri and got a new pair of pod k700.
I was just going to get the pod mx ($499 each) but i got a good deal on them and they didn't have the mx in stock.

WOW when you are walking around you know you have them on but i never noticed them once the whole day while riding and when I got spat off and landed on my bad knee i never felt it.
i don't know about the other bands as i have never worn them but these are fantasic.

Like sunday casual said you don't need brace socks, but i do wear my skins so they do the same job and i wear the long socks.
I think it is a bit like helmets, they ether fit you or not.

now i just need to find braces for the rest of this old body and i will be set.

Wa hoo, I didn't even have to ask the phys, he mentioned a subsidised brace without me even asking. Apparently he's helped sort one for a dirt biker before. It'd definitely save ACC money in the long run since ol' righty is in such a poor state allready, it'll probably need surgery eventually without braces, if I don't need it right now (hopefully not, hopefully not, I can't miss tussock buster!!). Just need to figure out what I've done to it this time first.
(p.s national can go eat poos $35 appointment, grumble grumble. Back in '08 I paid nothing and got a free gym membership for 3 months...)

Can anyone recommend someone to see about arranging a acc subsided brace, I had a knee op (complete ACL tear with a bit of a MCL rip) in Sept 2009 and think a knee brace/s would be a good idea.

The odd thing is my surgeon didn't seem to think so, he reckoned just lifting weights and strengthening the quad with balance exercises would be fine. Given I like trailing riding with the odd blat on a MX track and snowboarding you think he would have recommended them.
