Aye, although I don't think it has to be your actual surgeon that recommends knee braces. So if I can find someone who'll recommend them I might be able to get some subsided. Seems fairly silly that some people get them easy while others have to fight for them.

Ahh well tough shit I suppose. Maybe I'll have another go at my surgeon and see if I can bribe him for a recommendation.

The odd thing is my surgeon didn't seem to think so, he reckoned just lifting weights and strengthening the quad with balance exercises would be fine. Given I like trailing riding with the odd blat on a MX track and snowboarding you think he would have recommended them.
Yeah you need a surgeons letter. And since you've already been operated on I think it'd be even harder. I got a surgeon and physio's reccomendation but ACC denied me because it was for a recreational activity I think unless you're racing and really emphasise that, it's kind of hard to get one, which sucks.
Edit: I'm supposed to go back to the surgeon since knee is still giving me grief from some activities (like cycling, which they recommended, but not running or squatting 1.5x my own bodyweight?!) but after getting that letter from acc I just can't be stuffed. I feel like I'm being jerked around & don't want to take more time off work for time wasting appointments.

A friend of mine did her ACL I guess about, 15, 20 years ago? ACC wouldn't do a reconstruction on her then because she didn't compete in a sport nationally. So I guess they're more keen to hand out operations since then, but not things that'll help prevent needing one :/

After nearly 40 years of smashing myself up on motor bikes (and other activities!) I really do think I must have gotten my monies worth out of ACC........Can't really complain......

I got ACC to pay for a knee brace after snapping ACL PCL and ML ligaments. Once you get your surgeons letter, you MUST say that you need the brace to do you job. They will not cover you if it is for sports reasons or any recreation. They will send a person to access you at work, but you need some acting skills.
