Thanks to all from KB's MP

Thank you to everyone who came to parliament to see me into my new job (and attend Brent's birthday party). Oh, and there was some issue about some levies? The parliamentary staff and my fellow MPs were impressed with your great spirit and cooperative yet firm attitude.

It was fun to meet some more of my fellow Kiwi Bikers (those I hadn't already met on the Auckland protest on Saturday).

We have blogged about the protest, and the issues behind it, on our website:
    http://blog.greens.org.nz/2009/11/17...privatisation/

All the best for the on-going protest. Please feel welcome to send me a message here if there is anything more I can do to help.

I think you may have more luck if you ask for a green one.

Or an electric one... Assuming the power comes from an eco friendly renewable resource.

Will do. I'm having a bit of trouble finding Labours election policy on the ACC levy's. I understand the Street was going to lower them if Labour had won the last election. Are you able to confirm this or not.

Given the Greens support of the Nats, that is minus their energy policy, will the Greens support Nick Smith in raising the ACC levies for non commercial vehicles. As I understand the memorandum that the Greens have with the Nats they will.

I'm not sure what Labour went into the election saying - David Parker is their ACC guy now, contact his office

    Email: david.parker@parliament.govt.nz
    Phone: 04 817 8280
    Fax: 04 439 6482

and they should give you the good oil.

We certainly won't be supporting Nick to put any more levies up! The only policy areas we work with the Nats on under our MoU are home insulation and natural remedies - we walked away from the energy efficiency stuff because they just weren't playing by the rules about keeping us informed, access to info, basically was wasting our time for no good return.

    That's good to hear.

What prompted my query was on Sue Bradford's site. Now this may be out of date but on it the Green policy clearly states they the Green Party supports risk based levy's. That as you know is not in line with the Woodhouse general princples for ACC

The Green Party acknowledges that there is a need in some instances for specific risk-based levies to encourage injury prevention. The public provision for compensation will be funded through an equitable mix of levies on employers, employees, motor vehicle usage and general taxation.

This is bullshit. The only way this would affect injury rates would be if no claims bonuses were available.

    Hi Dave

Welcome aboard. I take that you stand with both feet firmly on the ground in your beliefs and vision of the Greens. I also applaud you for coming on KB. It is a diverse community with looks at life that covers the whole spectrum and then some. But clearly there is one thing we all have in common: bikes, so you will fit in easily.

I did start a thread just last week asking why suddenly there is an influx in new posters. Perhaps there is a realisation (as a result of the stand against the proposed ACC increases) that if on here, one can learn things that are not that obvious in other places. Discussions tend to be straight to the point and there is very little moderation going on.

This could easily become a way to increase the support for someone who talks the talk and walks the walk w/o BS. At the same time, someone who was trying to misslead the KB crowd would soon be a marked man.

    All the best.

EDIT: I just noticed that you have been a member on KB since 2006... and suddenly you are becoming active. Sorry, I am just a very sceptic person.
