    Honda crf150

I am thinking of buying one of these as an easy introduction to off road riding. I am about 5'7"-75kg,am not a kid!.My experience is a few years on road and bucket racing. I want it to gain confidence on shingle roads, learn to wheelie and have a bit of fun on. Any thoughts from the experts as to its suitability for the above brief?

Too small for you I'd say mate, with a little bit of road riding experience and planning to want to learn to wheelie etc I would say you would quickly outgrow the bike and become bored. I'd step up to a 250 four stroke, CRF YZF RMZ KXF 250's would be the best bet as far as I'm concerned. Probably cheaper too, those 150's seem to cost a bomb!

Good advice so far. A modern 250 is little out of the $$$ league-other recommended bikes?- xr 200ish kind of thing?

yeah, sure XR 200, great beginers bike, also i have seen some guys really peddle them hard, great satisfaction can be can by whipping riders on more advanced bikes.

If you give us a $ range we can reccomend from there. You'd be quite surprised what kind of bikes you can get for reasonable money.

Personally if you can't pick up a cheap 03ish 250f (the likes of which can be had for approx 3k) I'd try and get a 125 2 stroke (you'll find a reasonable one for 2k if ya look out) over the likes of an xr200. Similar sort of coin but the 125 is more advanced in terms of suspension, handling and power. They take some getting used to but will last you longer (before you get bored) and let you advance your riding further.

I think the 150R is one of the most overpriced bikes around. They're pretty good and do have the low seat height but when you can get a 250F that are so much quicker etc for less, they just can't justify the price.

Depending on what you want to do with a dirt bike, if you're racing, two strokes tend to be a bit lighter but they tend to work a lot harder and make you work a lot harder on trail rides than the 4 strokers.
Smoke 'em if you have 'em

Theres always the good old KDX200. $3500 ~$4000 buys a decent bike.
Very reliable and cheap to maintain. Should suit you for a couple of years.
