Next big Auckland rolling protest??? - Auckland City Mission Christmas Appeal?????

First up - this isn't my idea ... but Mully's HERE - I just got ecxcited about the prospect

But I think it's a fantiastic idea... with a lot of plus points...

    • Timing - Christmas is coming and the City Mission is always crying out for food items (particularly canned food) which it distributes as food parcels
    • Charity - End of the day we ARE good at charity - it never hurts to show the public this - I think the media buried the teddy bear run aspect of the last run
    • Location - Auckland City Mission is located on Hobson Street in the centre of the CDB - a mass ride here could not fail to get attention. Also it's not far from the CMJ so we could even have multiple converging rides or a similar run to the last one exiting at the nelson st CMJ. We can also have the ride going past the TVNZ HQ for just about guaranteed coverage (from a good vantage point too
    • Financial - Our continuing argument is that bikers are not afraid to pay - we spend $$$$$$$ on gear, training, (protests!) and the like - but yet still we're not afraid to give to those less fortunate

Ok, so it's not a fantastic place to congrgate - but we could well do a ridepast and then congregate somewhere else (easy hop back on the southern or northwestern for example @ hobson street)

    Anyone keen?

Lucky you mentioned this..... I was going to come after you for stealing my idea....

I'm keen depending on the date (getting married on the 19th December, and Miss Mully would probably murder me if I did this instead)

Maybe a couple of weeks earlier so they can distribute food to families in need.....

(AFAIK, the City Mission needs toys for children too)

Well... I was just gonna reply in-thread - but was sure it'd get buried in the noise - thought it deserved it's own thread - and obviously credit where it's due....

I agree early december - although there's a lot of full calendars during that time - though we've proved it doesn't take too much time to get something like this organised - lol

I'm up for this, it keeps bikers in a positive spotlight and giving up time to any charity is always good.

Suggested this a few pages ago, Ixions "How many fund raising runs' or something.
He was going to approach Diane Robertson (CEO Auckland City Mission) to sort something out"
Auckland City Mission very protective of their name and partners....
Dont want to go in all guns blazing to find the things not a goer.
It may be that if we can get support from Diane, and her very influential supporters and contacts the partnership could be mutually beneficial.
Would suggest a formal approach to Diane before we do anything else.

However, until/if something is arranged anyone can donate/volunteer, and they DO need all the assistance they can find.
