Plugging the local Suzuki shop...[AUCKLAND]

So I decided to bite the bullet a buy a Scott Oiler. I'm figuring if it only doubles my chain life it has paid for itself (and the claims are much higher than double-life). I had a poke around and discovered there are a couple of models (excluding the electronic one):

* MK7 - now discontinued - probably the commonest model
* vSystem - current model apparently based on the MK8 which I've never seen

I quick look on the internet showed that Red Baron is clearing the MK7 at $200. I bought my bike from them so I get a discount. Let's call that 10% (although often it's much more). So a MK7 at $180. I'm in Whangaparaoa though (and I was in my car that day) so I didn't really want to drive over the bridge and get caught up in the traffic.

Aha thinks me, I'll stop by Cycle Treads. vSystem Oiler: $239. Plus they would have to order it in. I had in the back of my head that there were a couple of other bike shops on Barry's Point Road, so I decided to go looking. The first one I came across was a Suzuki store. Seeing as I was on a Suzuki, that seemed as good as any place to stop. I don't actually know what the name of the dealership is. (I just saw the big "Suzuki".)

I went in and discovered that they had the vSystem oiler. I let them know what I could get the MK7 for and asked what sort of price they could do on a vSystem. There was a sharp intake of breath and the salesperson set to work on the computer. After a couple of minutes he came back with a price. $190. That's a whole $50 less than retail AND $10 less than I was aiming for. I had figured I would have to argue them down to $200. The sales staff were friendly to boot as well.

Had a sit on a Weestrom while I was there too - trying to figure out what should be next for me. But I digress.

So, to the folks at Suzuki X on Barry's Point Road in Takapuna. Thank you very much. I was very impressed and very pleased at your sharp pricing. Don't be to terribly surprised if you have a run on Scott Oilers. Thanks again.

The Honda shop is Cyclespot Honda. The Suzuki shop used to be called Holeshot Suzuki a few years back (I think, anyway) but because they also sold Triumphs and BMWs they changed to Holeshot Motorcycles.

In fact, looking in Google Maps it appears to be Holeshot. I just checked the invoice:

My original chain (Bandit 1200) is coming up for it's 100,000 Km birthday - 5x standard life timer.

The allowed elongation across 20 links is 319mm and it is only at 303mm.

Oilers are worth the investment (even Scott oilers)

Holeshot are a good bunch of guys to deal with. I bought my first bike from them, and if they hadn't been so out of my way, would have bought the second from them too.

You see now that appeals to me because my basic commute is 500 KM per week and then any other riding I do is on top of that.....

"Consumable" parts become an issue for me very quickly. :-)

Ol Holshot Suzuki - No doubt they are nice guys to deal with - I have purchased 3 bikes from them.

However - they can be sometimes lots more expensive than other dealers.

I purchased my last Suzuki (which was second hand) from the Honda dealer next door to them as the deal to buy the bike was about 1k better from the Honda dealer.

I just changed that bike to a new Triumph - the difference between the deal I got offered from Holshot to what I picked up at AMPS in the city was a mind boggling $3,000.

Having said that Rob in the service department rocks ! and I will always take my bike to him for servicing.
