put up some links of ones ya looking at on trademe, my mate has an 05ish sxf450 that has been made full road legal by someone else with the 6gears, just a extra two on top of the four so you still have the same gears for the dirt but more legs on the road, and motard rims, kinda cool in my mind

    MFSC lives on!

I still wanna keep my riding 90% offroad, with the choice of skipping between areas sans trailer, also try a few adventure rides.

like your style bro, only thing I'd say is just keep in mind the hours / miles you'll be clocking up on the road and translate that into maintenance requirements. Had a mate with a 525 exc that was pretty good as an adv option.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Sounds perfect to get you started.

Dual-purpose is by definition a huge compromise. What you want changes with the type of riding you are doing, which will change with time. You can always change bikes later.

The EXC (any EXC) would not be so good for long-distance unsupported touring fully loaded, but for casual adventure and serious off-road use, it's a great choice.
    Cheers,
    Colin

I use a 525 and would definately recommend you getting the bigger engine. Much more dual purpose friendly IMO.

I been thinking along the 565/690 line for next year but just had a squiz at the GasGas EC450 Desert. Be nice if you could get it. For Dual Purp I still think a bigger banger is better on the long tansits when loaded up tho.
I like all motorcycles equally, but some more equally than others.
