    Bike theft?

Hey, I just a brought a 1999 CBR900RR. I am only on my Learners still so there inst any point in insuring it for if i crash because i wont be covered. Basicly i am asking how often do you hear of Road bikes like this going missing from car parks and garages. I no MX bikes go missing all the time but a road bike with a steering lock is a pain to move even with a group of people.

Never under estimate a thief! If they want it, and know where its kept, they get it. Heaps of bikes are being stolen from all over the place.

Look into the price of insurance anyway, might be worth it in the end, even if its only for piece of mind

Can you still get fire/theft insurance? Surely you can as they have nothing to do with your licence status. Road bikes do get stolen and a steering lock won't help if they have more than 2 people (or even 2 strong people) that can lift it into a van. Chain your bike up as well as it is a rather inexpensive security measure. But if they really want the bike they will get it no matter what.

Given your licence status maybe you'll never claim the insurance anyway....

Unless you can get a fire/theft only coverage option you'll be paying about half the bike's value in excess.

    Sell it, get a 250.

You crash that thing, I bet there'll be another party involved. I bet it'll be your fault. I bet you'll loose the X-thousands you spent on it, plus the z-thousands for repairing their late model Nissan Bullshitmobile.

I've played this game, lost. In total I was out $15 grand. Thats $15 grand that I've got nothing to show for.

    Prove me wrong. Please.

Cheers for your imput. I wont be selling my 900, i had a 250 Bandit for 6 months it was a great learners bike but i was killing the poor thing. Sold it so i had the money to finnish putting a V8 into my van. Van now uses to much gas so i am back on 2 wheels. The 900 uses less gas then the 250 did unless im out on the back roads playing. Once i fix my mates 250 i will sit my resricted licence.

Untill then im going to have a look at fire and thieft insurance.

    Thanks

good luck... buy a good padlock, and put it on the back disk. then they have to lift and drag it away.. this will slow them down a bit..

All to often, Mate, all too often

You'll never stop the f*cker that really wants your bike

    But you can 'discourage' them

Keep your baby locked - preferably to something imovable.

A big u-lock, a case hardened chain and a ground anchor

It is a better, cheaper insurance than any piece of paper, imho

Don't blink you might miss it
Takes me 10min locking up my bike and covering it every night. Don't regret a second of it.

Only if you're being gentle, which thieves won't be.
