    I love my Gaerne's

I've got Gaerne MX, Gaerne Road, Fly Stinger ATV Shorties, Stylmartin Stormy Touring and Oxtar Gortex Adventure boots.

I don't like the Stylmartin Stormys.

    Me too.
I used to use Axo MX Boots for Adv Riding, but they were awful.
I've had my Gaerne's MX boots for about 7 years and they are really comfortable, even on those 500k's on the gravel days...

I have Gaernes. Very comfy. About as waterproof as a fluffy slipper.

My biggest issue is the seam down the inside of the calf. This catches on the footpeg and has caused quite a few, ah, shall we say, 'moments'. I have enough 'moments' without my boots contributing. I'll post a picture later.

Mine a road boots.. but they have leaked like a sieve, the 'waterproof' memebrane constantly gets caught in the zipper, they are ok for comfort, but overall I don't really like them.
Maybe their adventure boots are different.

I,ve got some alpinstars tech and they feel like slabs of concrete, mostly plastic but lots of protection as I learned too late the value of good boots after my give rack crushed both feet on the way to the dustybutt...still limping now.....

yeah gotta agree, i use road boots(dririder) which are very hot and dry and work boots for the ruff stuff, BUT no longer as the lack of protection just aint worth being a tight arse, had 8 months of physio last year after an off in work boots.
the Dri riders are an awesome dry boot but they only come out for the road from now on.

Howd this turn into a boot thread

Never buy boots with multiple panels up the inside.

This has to be a flaw.

Oh....and they haven't been cleaned for a while.

What are boots but not just "upside down helmets for the feet?"

    Mine are MX boots.
I wanted protection and comfort (sounds like a condom ad!!). Basically no boot is gonna be 100% waterproof, particularly if yer standing knee deep in a stream dragging someones stalled BMW to safety, but these ones at least stay dry in a storm.

Last posted here in the old days when it was all helmets as far as the eye could see... When I were a lad etc etc.

As for boots and waterproofing. Use MX boots. The end.
When a bike falls on your leg it hurts. 2 broken legs with 6 screws and a pin still remaining (from MX bikes) have taught me that you should always get the best protection for your lower leg.
What about water proofing? I used to use a carrier bag between sock and boot but the sweat makes it hotter and smellier than - well a hot sweaty, smelly thing! Also the bag usually splits so you have a not waterproof, hot, sweaty smelly thing!
Then I found the answer - GoreTex socks!
Problem is I cant remember where I got mine from - It was nearly 10 years ago on the other side of the world. But I'm sure that the interweb thingy will find something... Think they may have come from a hiking/outdoor shop?

Oh well, it's still a good topic. I agree about the MX boot thing. Going over the bars (and banging my shins on the way) convinced me.

Big thick woolly work socks for me. I gave up trying to keep my feet dry years ago.

Yep, same. The gore tex socks only work til the water flows over the tops
ther're a good solution for riding easy stuff in the rain, but throw in a water splash and the best boots in the world become expensive water carriers.
So I usually just dont bother eitherand get wet feet like Bart

I ended up getting a pair of Diadora Mud boots from Boyds (run out special - down to 249 from 499)
Much better for standing on the pegs. Have a bit of grip on the sole. Not sure of waterproofness but am going to snoseal the bejusus out of them this weekend.

(also got some Dririder Rally X trousers!) I almost look like an adventure rider now

Still ride like a kid on a tricycle though!
