Which of these?

hey

went motorbike shopping today found a few bikes..

GSXR250 - i absoulutely love it, mint condition i think 15000 k's 1989. its 4K. Problem is, is that its MINT condition, I would cry if i fell off it because its so damn beautiful

Kawasaki Eliminator - 3500 not sure on K's quite low tho. Nice bike also mint condition, i like it a lot just wondering about its speed etc

Yamaha (? i think) SR250 only like 1700 bucks, not overly flash to look at but that could be a good thing as its my FIRST motorbike (just sold my scooter

)

Suzuki marauder, low K's i think they want 4500 very nice again, heard has same engine as GN250 tho (slow

)

Suzuki RGV-150 1500 bucks not sure on K's tho its a 1998 model, havent acutally seen bike, Colemans is loaning it at the moment, i think for 1500 it could be the one as i wouldnt care too much if/when i drop/bin it

theres also a FXR150 on trademe for buy now 2000

As ive said this is my first motorbike, just upgraded from a 50cc scooter, just wondering which you guys would reccomend for my first bike.

Pretty much i wanna ride it around ( i love riding bikes! ) but also wanna go on your KB rides, plus parents are maybe moving from Auckland to Hamilton so will want something i can drive down when i need cash/washing done

I will research on these forums and internet but any advice would be great and muchly appreciated. Thanks!

Get a 150, guys on here will tell you, youre not missing much on one of those, wish they had those in my day (wheres me pipe and slippers?

Its easy, ok, if it's not a honda then it has to be the GSXR. Quite simple really!

Honestly tho, never not buy a bike cause your scared of wrecking it - what kinda "karma" is that. Hope you have fun which ever one you choose dude

I'd take the Gixxer for sure. You will outgrow those other things quicker than your scooter

Thats a good price for the kms on that GSXR, provided it's been looked after etc... hasn't been around the clock!?!

As you have done a bit of riding (even if it was a scooter...) I would think that you will outgrow a 150 in a matter of days..... a 250 should be fun for months...... at least till you get a Full license

150 2-strokes will need more maintenance than a 4 and can get expensive..... they dont take kindly to regular long trips either.

If you are that worried about dropping it maybe look for a different 250, something semi faired like a bandit or Zeal........ or spend another $150 and get a set of sliders to protect the fairings as plastics are a nice commodity when travelling long distances on the motorway or in the 'elements'.

I'd say go get a kawasaki..... ZXR if you just wanna cruise/race ZZR if you want to travel long distances, commute or take a pillion

And that's not just cause you own one, ah?

MSTRS is rite tho, the other bikes that you've mentioned may become booring after a while, where as the gixxer will just keep impressing the pants of you. While I own a CBR my partner is looking at getting her learners licence herself V soon, and im trying to coax her into a gixxer, mainly cause I know I'll enjoy it too!

She say's she wants a scooter . . . .

What are sliders?

I have no idea what they are, assuming they protect the fairings? Help:P

Ok the GSXR has like 13289 kms, came from Japan with that many K'ms. Safe to believe it hasnt been around the clock? Im fairly certain im gonna get it because it lept out at me in the shop, just need to find out what these 'sliders' are!

I think the sliders being referred to are a piece of rubber (a bit smaller than a coke can) that attach to either side of the bike sticking out past the fairing.
What this means is if the bike goes for a slide then the fairings are protected as the bike slides on the slider and not the fairing.

Ok you have mentioned a few bikes here..... but have you been out to the shops and test ridden a few of them yet?
You really need to go and test ride them to find the right bike that will suit you.... as that is most important.

I noticed that you have mentioned both cruiser and sports type bikes..... both types are different to ride.... and cornering is so different as well.

So spend a day going around the shops, if you dont test ride then at least sit on them.... and get the feel of them.

I ride a cruiser and won't ever ride a sports bike...
(No guys I wont ever ride one - have reasons for that - short, bad lower back and type of handle bars) The sports do not suit me....

I sat on the EL250 and the GSXR, and the Suzuki marauder ! I like the GSXR style, didnt take it for a ride tho. I would get the slider things definately, id rather ride it when its mine to ride, would hate to drop it or something

Test ride all you can! once you have signed the papers at the shop you are insured to ride any of thier bikes!!

(up to 250cc

although I've been told to just bring a mate and get him to take me around the corner on the back of something bigger.......

Yup I was referring to “crash bungs” or ”frame sliders” like these ones....http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...61382.htm..you can get flashy ones with springy substances inside so they dont bend the frame...... minor modifications will be needed to fit them, ie a couple of hole in the fairing and Tap a thread into the frame.....

Good man. Actually, I'm not particularly one-eyed re gixxers. They just happen to be superb bikes as a rule. It's so long since I've been on a 250 that they would all seem underpowered to me, but the one Sutage mentioned has got to be head & shoulders above the other makes/models that he is comparing.
