Suzuki Repairs

Hi All,

I run a Suzuki that will need a new chain & sprockets shortly.

Is the local Suzuki dealer the only one who can repair my bike?

Will I get laughed out the door if I try to get quotes at other reputable bike shops?


Damn spray on gold coloured chain wax, which is o-ring safe, has caused total failure pre-10,000km. Sprayed it on every 2-400km & adjusted as required per owners manual.
Thinking about going oiler now. What oil to use? Engine, Gearbox, Scottoiler, Chainsaw bar? Brands & spec's please.
Planning of buying a Loobman - Good idea? It's got Double Sided Delivery like Scotts and is cheaper. A ScottOiler probably won't fit my bike. Not much rubber between engine and carb and carb drilling is not desired.
Anybody here run a Loobman?


Need to replace my head light bulbs. What do you say I go for?
Cheap $6 is off my list, only lasted 2-6 mths.
That leaves the $13 recommended ones and when I asked about Halogen's (was thinking up to 35w), Suzuki told me no because they're too hot for the plastics. Yes, but Suzuki doesn't nearly ride into people at night because they weren't visible till almost too late. Lights appear to flood vs beam.
What you other FXR150s run out there? Do they pass the LTSA WOF, etc?

How to replace brake fluid? Mines 3.5yrs old and counting. That "Maintenance MegaThread" thread didn't mention it.

P.S. Before you ask/worry. Use fully synth oil and replace every 12mth or 4000km. Oh and she burns 91 octane.

Surprised the chain wax rooted your chain. I use chain wax on the gixxer and get bloody ages out of a standard chain. Clean your chain regularly with kerosene otherwise when you slap lube on you just create a grinding paste.

Any bike shop will offer reasonable service on your FXR. You don't have to go to a suzuki dealer to replace the chain+sprockets, however last time I went to Sportzone on Manchester St they seemed pretty good.

I use gearbox oil to lube my chain, something 80w90 I think (thick oil). Works much better than the sprain on stuff and doesn't cover everything else in the process.

Replacing the brake fluid is just like bleeding the brakes but you pump new fluild through at the same time so all the old fluid is just "bled" out.

Single feed to chain(I experimented with up to 3 feeds but found no real advantage)capilary effect delivers oil to both sides of the chain if the flow is set right.
The tank is custom made out of steel.
Flow control has a wide range of adjustablilty ,so you can use Scottoil (recomended) or motor oil
Flow starts automatically(a solenoid valve opens when the ignition is switched on)
You need space under the seat for the tank (50mm x 50mm x 100mm )
These dimensions can be different if necessary
Precision parts ,wont wear out ,remove and fit it to a new bike when you upgrade.

Thanks for the comment about Loobman - looks just the ticket but had not heard of them. I have been meaning to get onto a Scottoiler for a while but these look great (ie simpler all round) so have ordered two on the strength of their web info. Will let youall know how it goes. Thanks Pegasus man, hope the hijackers stay in the NI so we down here can get on with biking
