well will keep you guys uptodate on how it goes after i take it for a ride on the weekend as will put new filter and oil, sprockets, chain.
and a hour meter, what would be the recommended hours for a new piston and rings and cam chain.
well by the comments and feedback i have made the rite choice and thanks for the tips![]()
Yep another vote here! Light enough to be easy handling but heavy enough to last well, they seem to have the right balance. Don't forget you have hydraulic clutch, braided lines and brembo brakes standard as well.
Steve At Triple X actually sends me next door to Seaco for bearings. The bits you can't get aftermarket seem well priced at this stage IMHO.
Danger also got 400 hours out of his 200exc. I'm doing a piston every 100 hours or once a year just for the sake of it. I haven't taken one out that hasn't measured close enough that I could a put it back in. Mind you they are 2smokers?
You do develop a strange cult feeling towards them, less likely to swap between brands like the japs bikes. Which apparently pisses a lot of people off except for other Ktm owners LOL!!!
Just my 2c
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
According to people who make their living off working on KTM's (not people who read and hear misinterpreted stories from mates of mates)then i guess oldskools ktm should have grenaded twice and cave wetas should have grenaded 7 times?
the single cam RFS is a bullet proof engine, especially the 250s as they share the same head and bottom end as the 530s....
The single OHC 250 350 450 engines consistantly run into 300+ hrs before they need anything done to them and if they have been looked after often only need a hone and re ringing....
How odd ./...
I would think a rebuilt 250 of that age most likely has had every frame bearing replaced by now too. which is no different than any other bike.
Probably cost AT LEAST TWICE as much to do, but hey .....
:P
mint this time next year i will redo the piston and rings glad i have gone to the orange side now.
I can't be fagged reading all the posts, so heres my 2c take it for what its worth.
KTM vs the rest, Take BT101 he got his MX2 title on a KTM, got an AMA title on A Kawasaki, almost got an outdoor title as well. then moved to Honda, and was quick on that, just an old injury forced him out, James Stewart Kawasaki to Yamaha, Chad Reed Yamaha to Suzuki still fast, Mike Alissi fast on a KTM was holeshot king on a Suzuki.
So my thinking is if you are a good rider, it doesn't make a difference what brand bike, most important part is having it setup for you and your riding style.
