Wellington National Party BBQ - 3/12 - Report

    Hey team,

Well we turned up at Caltex and TV3 popped along for a chat to see what the game plan was..They then buggered off up the hill as they wanted to catch us arriving.

As you are all aware the party was closed to the general public as a junior had made a mistake when posting on the National Party website (Tui anyone?) so sorry you can't come. At least the National Party are consistant in that they do not seem to understand or listen!!!!

Mean while back at the Caltex we gathered. There were around twenty of us. While waiting we observed a Police bike shoot past and tear up the hill on his way to the BBQ (interesting they did not withdraw his invite lol).

Leader leader gives us a quick brief and we crank over the bikes and scoot out onto a busy Old Hutt Road and turn up heading towards the BBQ as we arrive TV3 were there filming as promised (did I mention the reporter was a Hottie).

So we park up and and put posters on our bikes and mingle. Unfortunately most of the guests had to walk as there were no parks available. We greeted the guests and handed flyers out to those willing to listen.

Now Katrina Shanks MP, (list) National for Ohariu-Belmont turned up with flowers (sadly not for me). I do not say this often, but full credit to her as she stood and listened extensively to us. She listened and expressed that she understood our concerns and heard from many a biker about their views. Katrina stayed and mingle for a little over an hour. So if she or her minders are reading this thank you for making an effort.

TV1 (good guys) turned up and filmed all over the place (got to ask what filming a bike trye does, different strokes different folks I guess)..

A few more bikes arrived followed by another Police car with a lone young Constable. They were very well behaved and a few of the lads chatted with them so as not to make them feel left out.

Just before leaving I was having a chat with a National Part attendee whoes bother rode in the BIKEOI (rides an ST1300). However I got talking to him and he said that they (National Party Regional Wing thingy) had a meeting last week. At that meeting the majority of the members were happy with what was happening, not so much with us but with the other ACC changes (read tax). He stated that we are the catalysts and that the public are getting in behind us now and they need to address this... Not sure if that was a good thing or not?

I firmly believe that if we keep up the peaceful pressure we we drill it into them that NO Increase is what we are after and thats no BULL SHIT!!!!

Well after a couple of hours we mounted up and left. The mood was great, the folks not bitter and twisted and bugger he pizza never arrived. O well.

P.S Can someone please remind me if the reporter is female, single and a hottie - to get her god dam number

Good report - it was a great ride (love those short and high twisties) ... but totally peaceful ... it was great that Katrina seemed to listen and take what was said on board ... lets hope she has taken on board that we are not happy with his comments on consultation and that we are paying in so many ways that we more than cover our costs.

    Thumbs up

Great event people! Great atmosphere and I was impressed that Katrina came round and shook all our hands. It was awesome to see us all lined up the road (which was like a rabbit warren to get to!).

Well done Kari for organising us and thanks to everyone else for joining in and behaving!

    Thumbs up Good TV Coverage

Just caught the TV3 coverage on TV3. Looks like even they are starting to see the point of where we're coming from. Good comment by StoneY, well presented

Well done everyone. The TV3 segment was very positive. Stoney's aired portion of interview was short, sweet and very pointed. EXCELLENT.

Though I was pretty disappointed that Stoney wasn't wearing his BFTP sticket. What's up with that dude?

I reckon Katrina and a couple of other attendees found us more interesting than their party. They spent more time talking to us in the cold southerly than inside where it was warm (probably stuffy) sipping champers. LOL

    Stoney's message was awesome.

These are fun protests. Gatecrashing your enemies party. Really effective and the media loves bikers style and look. Angry bikers in NZ, persistent, they aint going away.

Shame about the pizza. Next one I'm going to bring 2 cold beers
