    2-stroke questions

    Hi all.

I have a RG150 2-stroke road bike. I was wondering what was the best 2-stroke oil for my bike.

    What's better, semi-synthetic or full-synthetic?

What happens if i put semi into my oil reservoir that has full already in it?

    Thanks.

    Fully synthetic is best.

Most people will tell you TTS (myself included) but realistically any fully synth, name brand oil will see you right.

And if you mix 2 stroke oils there is a possibility that the mixture will turn to jelly.

Went to Mt Eden Motorcycles today and had a ask about 2-stroke, one of the mechanics said semi-synthetic is better because it has a bit of mineral oil in it. Might have to do some google research on it.

Ask 10 different Kiwibikers what's best - semi-synthetic or fully synthetic, and you'll get 10 different answers.

    Work that one out.

    like he said

you get what you pay for, fully synth has better film strength and shear resistance.

google it,but your engine knows the difference

for what its worth i use Rock Oil Synthesis 2T fully synthetic.Have done for 25 years and NEVER had a problem including national championship Road Racing and all that.

Buy the best its cheaper than a new engine.

How can you get 10 different answers when there's only two types of oil?

Buy Castrol TTS. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Where can you actually get Q8 though? Personally I'm sick of paying $25+ a litre for oil, expecially when others seem to get it cheaper!

Hey, I think KM is sorta right on this one. I would either go to a local trusted suzuki dealer and ask the fellas there, they willlikely be your best bet for a definitive answer, alternatively, find some people who have owned what you have, and ask what they have found is a good oil to use, experience is better than opinion and all that. Enjoy your smoker!

Apparently way back in about 1972 there was some sorta funky synthetic 2-stroke oil available that was non compatible with normal oil. AFAIK there is nothing like this sold today & I've never had a problem mixing 2 stroke oils.

I've had good results with TTS also, but back in the day I used to do a bit of touring on the 'ol RZ350 & sometimes I'd have to top the old smoker up with whatever lawnmower oil the Hicksville garage was selling. Never saw no jelly.

    Cheers

Ok sweet, yeah I've succesfully blended two different oils together before but I have always read about there being a possibility of trouble.

I used to have an RG150 and pretty sure I used fully synthetic in it and I never had any trouble. It had done 23,000kms when I sold it and it was still gong well.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

I have personally done 20 000KMs on one of my KR150's.
I've used it for commuting / long trips / 3 seasons of Racing.
I have Never had the barrell off.

It has been run consistently on CHEAP $12/L Valvoline Racing oil (Non synthetic).

    Motor compression @ 21000kms is 150psi.
I've never had a oil related problem with this bike.

I also have no hesitation in using this 'Cheap' oil in my RGV250 at the race track.

    Thats My Experience.
