Just another good reason to have medical insurance. Then you can avoid the disease incubators called public hospitals.

Killer bug???? I came all the way to wellington to catch a killer bug????/ Not good
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

It's not an outbreak of a "killer bug" it's just a slightly more virulent strain of Staph. It's still just as succeptible to antibiotics as any other one though. Yay for the media blowing things way out of proportion again though....

Our family doesn't even have a proper family doctor....
Yeah yeah. It's now just over 50 (five zero) years since I went to a doctor. (Actually, I was taken by my mother)

And bugs don't infect me, I infect the bugs.

    Hehehe

Hey, you're halfway right, and Mr Melon is 75% right. It is Staph. aureus BUT it's a new strain, NOT easily treatable with conventional methods.
I didn't say it was the fecking Ebola virus!

But, I went to work today and got told to piss off and go home (not quite those words). So I did, stopped off and hired a PS2 and Gran Turismo 4

I've been sick for almost a week now, and it's getting worse. HOWEVER, I have NOT gone to the doctor and I'm not taking anti-biotics.
I don't really care, just wish I could sleep (through the coughing).

Relative of mine is a nurse in unit and is one of the nurses off work due to testing pos for bug....no symtoms...was looking after one of the babies that died...not nice specially when they have young kids of own..told me felt sorry for parents of kids with all this publicity...was not transfered from staff so that was a relief for them. A pretty emotionally draining job nursing in these units

Yeah - I know the doctor they interview, and I'm pretty sure that his wife was saying that evidently it can be wiped out with penecilin and that it's all pretty much just media-hype (yet again)!

    Virulent != antibiotic resistant.

Unfortunately bacteria have a very nasty ability to reabsorb the DNA of others. So supposing that we had two bacteria, one with antibiotic resistance and the other one that is the virulent strain. If you kill the virulent strain bacteria via antibiotics then the antibiotic resistant one may pick up the DNA which makes the other virulent.

Now if you want to be really worried the bacteria which we spray our crops with (because we genetically modified it to secrete a crystal which kills certain types of insects [mainly catipillers]) closest relative is anthrax. And it'll will quite happily take up the bit which makes anthrax lethal to animals.

I'm the same. I don't have a family doctor. I don't have any health records... The after hours doctor in Newtown (Welly) charges an EXTRA $10 if you don't write downt the name of your regular / family doctor. I mean, wtf! I'll just make one up next time.

It's funny, I follow the servicing requirements of my bike to the "T", wash / polish it regularly and otherwise take great care of it. Me? Haven't been to a doctor for AGES!
