One less Public Holiday in 2011

While firing the first shots at our staffing budget for our next financial year at work we have discovered that Easter Monday falls on the same day as ANZAC Day (25 April of course) in 2011. I've checked the implications with the Department of Labour and they confirm that where two public holidays fall on the same day, they are treated as just one public holiday. (Holidays Act section 44, sub section 4).
There may be some interesting debate about this when it becomes public knowledge. Oh, I know that ANZAC Day can't be changed ... has to be on the 25th and I think that Easter Monday is similarly fixed and that the Catholic Church provides guidance on the date.

I don't think Christ will be coming any earlier if we move Easter - to most of the population it is just a holiday anyway.

Easter Monday has little (almost no) Christian significance. It's just a holiday. Many countries don't even have it. Easter Day (Sunday) or Good Friday would be another matter.

Does mean the shops will be closed Good Friday, Easter Sunday AND the morning of Easter Monday too though. Shopping on the Saturday will be very busy!!

The thing that guts me about ANZAC day, is its only worthy a holiday (in the gubbermints eye's) if it falls mid week
Thats an insult to the fallen IMO

Also, that Easter ( a religeous holiday) still causes non religeous people to suffer at the hands of the zealots, eg the trading limitations posed on and around this bullshit religeous crap, for goodness sake.....ya aint allowed to say a prayer at school anymore without permission but the gubbermint WILL fine you for trading at Easter?
    Hypocricy!!!

FFS when is Catholocism going to get buried, its the 21'st century and I for one would rather celebrate the memory of the guys who gave it all for our freedom than a myth from aincient rome based on the life of a carpenter some muppet belived was born of a virgin in a barn.....

They are already closing down. Competition is stiff now that the "global warming" religion is sucking up all of the $$$'s.

The employers of the country rejoice unless they end up having the public holiday observed on the tuesday like this year's boxing day and day after new year's
