    Off-road light goggles/glasses?

    Hey anyone seen/used/own these
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-262021552.htm

Just wondering how they would do for general use on trail rides etc mainly just to keep dust out of the eyes.

Those things look like they might be OK but you can also get safety glasses from welding supplies or similar shop. Mine are $25 Uvex 'Cybric' they are a good size for unrestricted vision. They wrap around & fit face/eyes really well, & keep out a surprising amount of crap. Nice pale yellow tint is best for sharp vision as well, especially in flat light. Goggles were useless last ride I did, fogged up all the time.

FYI to all, a few weeks ago I had goggle probs and kept taking them off. Was going along at pretty high speed (4th gear), I went too close to a pile of tree prunings, handlebar flicked one up and went it end-on straight into my eye. Or rather it would have - by sheer dumb luck I had the goggles on at that moment. Gave me a hell of a fright, and I learned I absolutely needed safety glasses for bad goggle days.

I've used similar safety glasses in the past. The ones I had didn't have the black plastic around the bottom of the lens. They were available in looks-like-safety-glasses-clear, looks-like-shooting-range-glasses-yellow, and looks-like-sunglasses-mirror-tinted. I got mine from the local McEntee Hire for $12.95.

I use the cheap (usually around $20) shaded safety glasses from safety stores and I find that they don't allow me to look into the shadows too well.
Last week up in Karapoti I was 10m into the trees from the open before I could make out fine detail which wasn't good so I'm going for some reasonable goggles, maybe Thor or similar.

The yellow tint sharpens everything up but I'd only use those for twilight riding so it'll be clear for me.

Wouldn't those things fog up around eyebrows when sweating?

Personally I'd go for 'WileyX' glasses - more impact protection

    Cost a fair bit though.

Google them and have a look.

Yup, I've got a pair of the Choppers, yellow lens. Good lens, but it's a basic cheap as chips frame. I've used them for cycling and on the trails, don't get mud under them (behind the foam) but water & dust may do...
Rule of thumb = get what you pay for! Think mine were $27.

Advantage of cheap safety glasses is they're cheap to replace when lens gets scratched up.
