    2.3 and 16 months!

This week I was due for my LTNZ Performance Revue - scary shit, specialy if you have a reason to be worried! He was supposed to come on the 27th,so I booked no work for that day,the Frosty van was the back up - but he didn't come.In the afternoon he rings up and says ''what day was I coming to see you?'' I said it was today ''I've got you down for tomorrow'' Oh bugger,so we settled for the next afternoon.

It all went well,I haven't had this guy for the Performance Revue System, but he was my inspector in the Motosafe days,so we know each other. The Motosafe reigeme was ISO 9002,all about paperwork and not the inspection, some very pissed off WoF inspectors,so the LTSA took over and now it's more biased to the inspection, the paper work only kills AVIs,not roadusers. We did the inspection on my Cuzzies Corolla, that'll teach her to leave her car with me while she lives it up in Greece. It's hard keeping track with an inpection where you are doing things you never bother to do in real life, just when he's watching, but I only slipped up in a couple of areas (check that the centre belt is adjustable, use a lever for lower ball joints).

The paper work is always my downfall,I just don't do it,period. We are supposed to do a self audit at least once a year, and I had...''you should date these revues when you do them'' ...I didn't put a date on because the ink might of smudged,it'd had overnight drying when he looked at it.They pick my busiest day, print it out and then check that my records match, that's the day I'll most likely slip up.All he found was a checksheet where I checked the car one day and entered the result the next, they don't like that.'Um,ah,that one stayed overnight and I did it in the morning...yeah,that's right, that's what I did(cough).True actualy.

So out of a score of 3,I got 2.3 pretty good really, last year was 2.1 and the National average is 1.9,that means he comes back in 16 mths, last time it was 13mths.Last year I was in upheaval as my mother was very ill,I was going to see her every day, petty things like WoF paperwork totaly forgotten...so last years inspector was really good to me,he could of really slammed me on some stuff.

I like this new system,it's been going for about 3 yrs,it's the same inspectors, but they act more human,it's about us and them working it out,not the boss above waving the big stick...it's more like 'let's work it out together' $600 paid to LTNZ for the revue, and a day of no work - the real cost of doing WoFs.

So the higher you score the longer before they check you again ? That's a good scheme. Sounds too intelligent to have come from the LTSA

    Scary isn't it.

Obviously a different internal department. No way could the same group of people be so stupid and so smart at the same time.

Congrats Motu. Although between you and frosty, I'm still puzzled. He sells cars, and yet has the knowledge, skill and passion to be brilliant at bikes. And you work on cars, when you knowledge of bikes seems (at least to me) to be second to none. Is it just the commonality (is that even a word?) of cars which leads you to work on them? Or is it you don't want to work on bikes for a living and spoil what is otherwise a passion? Or something else?

That's right, after the Motosafe system where guys who were doing everything right would get dragged over the coals for using the wrong colour pen to record data,LTSA set up a system where those doing a good job would be rewarded and those not so good would be penalised. The revue officer charges $145 per hour, the longer he spends with you the more it costs, the better you do the longer between revues,so less costs.Bad guys could get them around every couple of mths, paying through the nose until they buck up their ideas. It seems to be working, and although nobody likes it,it's so much better than Motosafe we all just keep quiet and hope no body notices us.

Yes,I do bikes - I had the DT230 sitting outside my office and he asked if I did bikes.I felt like saying, seeing as we stuffed up on our dates, how about you test me on a bike? that way it won't take as long....

I once started my own motorcycle business - and quickly lost all passion for bikes.People who say work at what you enjoy doing have got it all wrong - your interests need to be for relaxation, not your daily grind.Working on cars (and trucks and machinery and everything else I've done) gives me the skill and knowledge base to make my passion for bikes more worthwhile.

I had a feeling that was the case.

Congrats again on the good work. Not to mention the amount of time you put in here, helping people with information, etc.

We just had the LTSA doing our review yesterday, what a fuck'n load of bullshit paperwork they demand, some of which is ridiculous given the our apllication of much of what the ask. Despite the we still passed above average and it looks like I will be doing courses shortly to issue LT400's work some repair jobs we do.
