    Biker camaraderie

Coming from only driving cars until a few months ago and the only emotion between drivers is rage, it's so refreshing and makes me proud to be a biker when your biking alone, pass another biker and get the "howdy" nod/wave.

I think this is also amplified when its wet (like Wellington this morning!) as you know only the true bikers are out braving the elements like yourself. There's instantly a bond there.

Example: Was sitting at some lights today when throughout the traffic 3 bikers went past and all gave the "good on ya mate" nod.

I have to say that I enjoy this angle as well. I guess it's because we all have something in common.

You'd better hope Katman is in a good mood otherwise he'll be in shortly to rip you a new one.

Do you really think you make a bond every time you see another motorcyclists riding in the rain?

I think there is a big difference between acknowledging someone and forming a bond - just because it makes you feel special inside doesn't mean you've formed anything other than the notion that someone else who is doing the same thing automatically has a bond with you.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

I'm going to start giving the finger to others riding in the rain, That should lay waste to any fantasies people have about bonding.

As for deciding who the "true" bikers are.....

Haha ok so maybe the word "bond" is the incorrect one to use but you know what I mean

I understand the sentiment about seeing fellow bikers in the pouring rain. Not so much a 'bond' but a respect for someone else who isn't a fair-weather biker. (Either that or just seeing someone who is as crazy as you).

Interestingly since this whole ACC levy thing kicked off I've noticed that nods have become almost universal and waves on the open road are almost always returned so cameraderie has increased.

I dont know about a bond ,its more of an acknowledgement of a fellow biker battling the elements or just a Hi.....
