"No Ev Veh Inspect (Lta)" - fine I just received, what is this?

    (car related, sorry)

Totally, stumped. Just received a final-payment-reminder thing for something that apparently happened on 22 June this year but I have no idea what it is!

    Can anyone translate this:

    Code:
    The infringement offence is:

    No Ev Veh Inspect (Lta)
    On: Monday 22 June 2009 at: 09:42
    At Montana Avenue
    Vehicle Colour: BLUE
    Vehicle Make: FORD
    Vehicle Model: LASER
    Vehicle Type: Passenger Car/Van
    Vehicle Reg: XXXXXX

The amount you must pay is:

    Fine $200.00
    Court costs $30.00
    Other costs $0.00
    TOTAL $230.00
    Less paid $0.00
    AMOUNT DUE $230.00
    Clarification appreciated...

By post. Pisses me right off because this is the first I've heard of it, but I called that fines number and they reckon this is the forth?!

Weird, every other fine I've had I distinctly remember getting the orange sheet, then pink etc etc. I definitly did NOT for this one, but (paradoxally) I can no longer agrue that point (or any other point) because 56 days have passed. From what the helpful Indian man told me on the phone.

The big question is was there ever a period of time during which you had no WOF sticker on your car?

I had the same issue with IRD - "X number of reminders have been sent" - uhh, no they haven't.

They believed me though - waived the penalties.

More importantly - were you guilty?

Look, let's not get hung up on a technicality when he's trying to get off on a technicality FFS people.

Guilt has nothing to do with, and as usual the Ministry of Justice are not telling you the full story.

At some point in time you will need to fill in a Form 57 at the court if you never had a Reminder Notice, but.........

Personally I suggest you wait until the MoJ start chasing which could be months (possibly years) into the future.

    The reasoning is as follows:

The council will have to send another Reminder Notice, you ask for a hearing, the council have to prepare for a court case some years after the event - chances are the parking person won't be there any more - no court case and no fine.

There are other factors to take into account, such as a Notice of Hearing has to be dated within six months of the date of the alleged offence - and at the present time all Christchurch Reminder Notices are invalid (that's my theory! in court on 20th January to see what happens).

Thanks all, I'm guilty alrite, I got a WOF the week later. But fair is fair I didn't have it when the parking dude came by...

Yeah I found it really interesting the MoJ said on the phone that there was no way I could argue the fine now that it's in the courts system. They did mention form 57 but said I couldn't use it in my case.

I'm just gonna pay up - but I feel like I was told a few fibs to dissuade any fighting of the fine in the first place...

Thanks for the advice, but I've already received the "pay now or we'll add $100" notice (the first correspondence from them as far as I'm aware).
