    Hey everyone,
I'm finally getting my restricted this Thursday, the 17th of December.

practice using the kb thread search tool for a start

restricted is easy as, just ride defensively, lots of head checks etc, indicate early, stop with both feet on the ground (apparently some tester like you doing that)

    Hi there Clean up.

You will be tested on u-turns, they will take you to a coldersac or dead end street make you stop 10 meters before and make a U-turn without putting your feet on the ground. Practise this in a car park.
Never go over the speed limit and dont go more than 10k under the posted speed limit, 5kph slower is fine.

Remember, the main criteria they judge you on is your awareness, multiple times do blatantly obvious headchecks and mirror checks, by swiveling your head right around so the tester can recognise this

Also a recap on indications, when entering a round-about indicate right then left to go straight through, give way to all cars coming from your right.
Stop at all give way signs with both feet on the ground.

Lastly come along to NASS this wednesday you can learn so much in one lesson. All the best with your test you should piss all over it!

+1 on the head checks, the only thing I got told off for on my restricted test was not turning my head to look enough.

But don't indicate right if you're going straight through a roundabout, just left as you exit. Only indicate right if you are turning right

And you only need to stop at give way signs if there is someone to give way to.

Most definitely, figure 8's really improve your slow speed handling. NASS will have prepped you, should be sweet man.

Mostly good advice, but this bit is WRONG.
Never indicate right at a roundabout if you are going straight through. Allthough in saying that, i had a tester mark me down for noot doing this, as he said "on large roundabouts you must indicate onto the roundabout."

This is bullshit, if you check up on the rules they state if you are going straight through then do nothing as you approach the roundabout. As you pass the exit before that which you intend to take, then and only then you should start indicating left.

    Edit: Beaten to it

My fault, when I went for my test the lady marked me wrong for going in and only indicating left to go straight through. She must of been wrong, sorry about that.

Yeah, i had that too on my full test in the car. It was just aftter they changed the rules, and i wasnt gonna tell him he was wrong even though i had the new factsheet to prove it

Dunno what they teach these testers
    Yeah, nah.

the one i hate, Is when they put their left hand indicator on BEFORE entering the round about and still, end up going straight through. Left hand indicator is only to be used EXITING the round about.. Dont forget that!
The only stupid question is a question not asked!

What year did they change the rules? I need to keep up with the times.

Just to clarify they havent changed the rule on putting both feet at a give way sign? or it being preffered to stop then check even if there are no cars?

Umm, probably before you were driving

Wouldve been early 2007... before then the rules on indicating at roundabouts didnt require you to indicate left upon leaving them.

Dunno about giveway signs, but i almost always stop and check unless its a very clear view, cos theres lots of nutters out there!
    Yeah, nah.

    Ha ha!

Yeah, what Bogan said. Be aware and blatantly show that to your assessor.

I'd also practice U-Turns without putting your feet on the ground in the process. Start on a wide and flat road. And then maybe challenge yourself by practicing on a uphill gradient. This is quite tricky but if you get it right, it'll show your assessor that you have good control of your bike at low speeds.

    Good luck dude!

EDIT: SORRY...BEATEN TO IT ALSO. JEEZ YOU GUYS ARE QUICK!!!

You are doing your test at Quay Street so I would check out these threads. They have maps of the route as well as a description of what happens.

All of them. You should be a skilled and competant rider after six months of practice.

You have been practicing haven't you?
