    Question New piston?

i need a new piston for my 07 YZ125 soon and just wanting to know a few things,

ups and downs of getting after market ones?

am i better off paying the extra for genuine yamaha ones?

    any comments will be helpfull.
    thanks

it depends what aftermarket one your interested in?
a recent thread shows what happens to cheaper pistons... breaking apart
getting a prox or wiseco will be just as good as a genuine yamaha one, considering yamaha dont make pistons, and the genuine piston is probably a wiseco anyway, just comes in a blue box.
its just that the genuine kit will come with a piston kit and all gaskets required. wheras a wiseco piston in a box will come with a piston in a box and no gaskets
we may just go where no ones been

its not very likely yamaha pistons to be wiseco, most oem pistons in jap bikes are cast, not forged like wiseco, but the general theory is correct that the brands outsource pistons

price up a genuine one, and see what the price difference is ( i know genuine kx125 piston kits are cheaper than brand name aftermarket ones) , there are some cheaper brands of pistons around at the moment and i have not used any to give you any info,
