Protecta insurance for my mean streak

Hey guys - I just confirmed my insurance through Jenna at Kiwi Bike Insurance Brokers today. I insured my 2006 VN1600 Mean Streak for $18,000. It's through PROTECTA and the annual premium is $456 with a $250 excess and Free AA Roadside Assist. Given that I paid Vero (David Golightly Scheme) just under $1000 last year with my renewal at $988 coming due in January 2010, I'm happy with the $500 + saving I've just made. All done over the phone on 0800 629 253. Jenna's email if you want to contact her is jenna.rowe@kiwibike.co.nz - I'm stoked I shopped around!

I need to make a note of that. That's a much better deal than I got.

Gotta watch those protecta bastards, I insured my wee vt250 for $4500 agreed value 2 months later bike got stolen (who would want to steal one of those??!!) and they wanted to pay out $1800 cause thats what they thought it was worth. I had to go round bike shops and get quotes for market value these came back at $4000 but protecta only paid $2500 WANKERS!!

This was 15 or 20 years ago so may have changed their low life tendences but I'd still never touch them with a 10ft barge pole

In insurance policies I have been involved in, if your insure something for more than double or half its real value you risk the insurance being voided (aka, it looks like an insurance scam). I only ever looked at an agreed policy once, and there seemed to be so many holes I went back to a market value policy again.

If you insured it for $4500, and it got stolen 2 months later, surely you would have still had proff of the purchase?

No I had it 14 months got it new re-insured after a year, the $4500 was what THEY told me it was worth so I insured it for that not thinking (I was a lot younger then)

Heya Toddyz, I was involved in a crash with my Triumph about 2 years ago and totalled the bike. Wasn't my fault. I had the bike for less than a year and had bought it for $15k. PROTECTA took less than 3 weeks to fully pay the $15k after i had done over 12000km, can't complain about that!

No went direct. they first quoted over $1600 and when i said WTF they dropped it to $1234.
i have a 65% no claims and they still come back with that nearly double. road side rescure is worth that much, and you only get 3 free a year.
Guess i will be staying with state.
