It really doesn't take much in the UK. January is a shitty time of year, iced or greasy roads... think wet feet on linolium, just a touch of the brakes would have had him over... i've had this many many times (and evenually stopped riding through november - march, way too dangerous), fortunately able to stay upright... I doubt ABS would have made any difference in this instance, guess we'll never know...

That was a pretty heartbreaking to read.

Very well written and the focus on the family is something you don't normally see. It's a pity that some of our journos do not take the time to write like this one did.

Hard not to read that and think of how my family would have to cope if the same thing happened to me. I've a ten month old daughter. She wouldn't even remember me. Being well insured is a minimum obligation (and I am).

Still, when all's said and done you have to pursue your passions and live your life. I know my missus wouldn't want me to stop riding. Hard to stay safe on NZ roads though. Too many people with an adversarial approach to driving.
