Hilarious report on radio NZ today. Even the Treasury disagrees with the proposed ACC changes.
ACC changes could cost more - Treasury
Updated at 5:34pm on 23 December 2009
The Government was warned that proposed changes to accident compensation would end up costing the Crown more than was saved.
The Treasury advice is contained in papers obtained by Radio New Zealand[ under the Official Information Act.
In a paper prepared for the Cabinet Social Policy Committee, the Treasury said the proposed changes would save the Accident Compensation Corporation $50 million per year.
But it warned only $3 million of this would accrue to the Crown and the money might not fully offset increased health and benefit spending.
Treasury said the remaining $47 million would make little difference to levy rates.
Labour says the advice brings into question the Government's justification for the moves.
ACC spokesperson David Parker says it confirms the changes will lead to increased costs for health and welfare.

So Why are they charging us more, the pedestrians cost more per accident, and I doubt they were hit by MOTORCYCLES!!!!
Have I fucked up and gotten this all wrong?
PS: Count me in!
So are we going to have another go at running over Pedro at the stadium again?.
Don't think I can get out of not being there again, cause I make such a good target.
The Bikoi was a stunning success, but I wonder if we aren't better putting our efforts into different action. The Bikoi did what it needed to - convey the deghree of popular dissatisfaction with the levy increases to the political elites, but they know thousands of us are unhappy. If there was another Bikoi and it was smaller, the message National would get is that we're losing momentum and there's no need to worry about us any more, so any further protests HAVE TO BE BIGGER.
A mass protest ride may also be counterproductive because it's easy for bikers to then say "well, we did all we could and now we're screwed" instead of saying "what is the best way to influence change?".
And I think we've had National's best offer. They backed down substantially from the ridiculous numbers they originally offered, and Slippery Nick reckons the new levies are "fair". They are unlikely to back down again because that paints them as a government that allows itself to be dictated to by minority groups, whereas the reduction to the levies had been done to show them as a government that listens to the people and makes concessions. And I don't agree with any of this, but I work in PR and know a bit about politics so know how they work.
National won't budge on this, and the only chance we have of further winding back the levie increases is either demanding a complete review of the entire ACC funding programme including the plans to move to fully funded, and to directly lobby National's coalition partners (Peter Dunne, Act and Maori).
Don't blame me, I voted Green.
are you looking at getting other groups involved because we are all going to get jammed up the arse by the goverment![]()

Any new March / Ride on Parliment, needs to take a different tac from the Bikeoi, as it would be "Just those winging Bikers Again".
Keeping up the Pressure with the gatherings of Bikers at Political Party Meetings, keeps us in the Governments Faces, they would like us just to go away, and I would geuss that if we do get a bit to comfortable after the Xmas / New Years Break, and stop attending their political meetings, then we will have just done that, gone away.
I belive that we should target all Political Party meetings from right accross the political spectrum, so that we keep the pressure on our supporters as well as our oppisition, we just need to be there handing out our flyers, shaking hands and talking our talk, rember to keep it polite and civilised, and cameras on hand if a party supporter loosses their cool.
saw a thread on tardme before... seems the tourism levies are coming up... 80% increase.

This government's fucked, let's ride em out of town.
Join hands with the skiers... Ride to parliament joust style with ski poles on our handlebars...
We did say WHO'S NEXT? I hope the public realise it's just a matter of time before the supposed shortfall hits all NZers.
Quite crafty how ACC / the government are doing this. By targetting many, many "minority" groups, they hope to eventually put increases on everyone without the mass protest.
