Anyway we had a real laugh about it at the bottom of the hill while I was gassing up... He said it was fun following someone more experienced 'cos it was a good way to learn the lines as he had only been riding 3 months or summat... I kinda suggested that in that had I known that, I would have ridden a damn sight slower and taken some proper lines instead of my usual panic... I was of half a mind to suggest he slowed down but he was just sooo enjoying it and to be honest, we were not really going that fast I didn't say anything...

I was a little nagged about it and we exchanged a few PM's...

Seemed like a really NICE guy and looked like he could handle that bike real well... Seems stupid but I wish I had not enjoyed my self so much and maybe warned him off... Dunno... Would it have made a difference????

    Shit shit shit...

Damn... When someone finds the funeral / contact details will they PM me. I have a bastard of a week ahead of shit I just cannot put off and I'm sick as a bloody dog but at the VERY least I'll send something.. Shit.....

    Unbelieveable....

Can't add too much to what others have said.

I haven't been on KB much lately - my son's Christening today so I missed a ride today and been too busy anyway - so this was the first thread I read.

Never met Sam, but read a bit of what he'd posted. He seemed like a pretty typical 19 year old, a bit like me at that age - I can relate to what you were saying Paul.

I know the road he was on reasonably well, and the temptation to wind the throttle on is pretty high just before Gladstone School, and for about 30kms in either direction. I've personally achieved top speed on my bike riding that road, so I can imagine what happened...

So very sorry for friends and family. They must be going through a horrible time right now - if there's any way to pass on that a lot of people are thinking about him that would be good.

I posted about nine months back something about how with the amount of bikers on this site it was only a matter of time before we lost one. Although a part of me is surprised it's taken this long, it still comes as a shock.

    Peace be with you Sam.

So sad to hear and someone so young. Just last week I looked at his profile pic to see if I recognised the bike and atleast would know who I was waving at next time. Never got to meet him and he lived in the neighbourhood.

    Sincerest condolances

My thoughts are with the family tonight and for the coming days.

Let it be the only one for the lifetime of the site.

My condolences to family and friends. Seems that those that knew Flyin will miss him.

Went through something much the same as a teenager. Had a mate who head on'd a car and died. Still think of him on occassions after all this time. The only consoaltion that I can give is that Flyin will forever be young.

    RIP ol' son

On the memorial to fallen bikers on this site I think that may be a good idea. That way 'obits' can be posted by those who wish to say something. That way maybe someone could print off and have them displayed at any funeral for family and friends to read.
Never seen a memorial to fallen bikers on any forum I have visited so could be a first.

that sucks, can't think of anything else to say, that really does just utterly suck, same age as me, pity it takes something like this to make me consider slowing down and riding sensibly! sounded like a top guy, just living life to the full, but i guess he went doing something he loved!

Didn't see the accident as it happened. However we were riding back from the Gladstone Hill climb rd making our way to Carterton. Stopped at a junction and waited for Sam so he wouldn't get lost. Of course he didn't show so I doubled back to check up on him. About 5km up the road I came upon the scene. It almost appears if Sam suffered some sort of ailment before the accident. There didn't seem to be any evidence of braking into a left hand corner. He seemed to carry straight on into the front of a Ford Falcon. A nurse happened by and we attempted first aid but he was expectant. All we could do is comfort him until the ambulance arrived.

Terrible thing to happen. Condolences to his family and loved ones.

If I smoked, I'd give up, just for him: remember how he had such a 'thing' about it..? He was such a principled young guy. Here's just one of the things he wrote:
I think this is completely appropriate and would be all for it. If you wish we could take my car out one evening this week. PM me if you wish to do this.

Not sure what to say here - my condolances to Sam's family - neva met him & neva knew himself but just reading of his plight and reading these 7 pages of messages brings a tear to my eye.

I definitely someone should print all this off and take to his parents. & as someone has previously pointed out - he obsiously died doing something he loved.

    RIP Sam

I'm sorry to say I was never lucky enough to meet Flyin.
You know we all every day hope and pray it doesn't happen to us or our freinds.
The comment was passed that it was just a matter of time but I for one hoped and prayed that day would never come.
Rest in peace young fella. May the roads always be good and your tank always full.
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
