As not to upset too many people read the URGENT thread. There was a tragic accident in Wellington over the weekend . . .

in all fairness, the word 'URGENT' doesn't make it all that obvious about what's happened. I've just had to go back and trace all the threads about it too, but it started from here, cos I wasn't around over the weekend. Chances are people will look for the obvious first, then trace back. URGENT could be anything around here..

I know the meaning of the thread but I have another question. Should we turn our signitures off for that thread? I wasn't sure so I did it anyway and noticed that a few others have. Or does it not matter?

I did. my bling-loud flashing (if you win) sig isn't really the best for places and time like this. If it's non-offensive or discrete, then I wouldn't worry. Or if you may 'intend' in the near future to do something like that, then maybe turn it off..

Yea someone 'pm-ed' today requesting that I change mine. I think that at a time like this people should be sensitive to others feelings, you never know when you'll be in their position . . . .
(needless to say I changed mine too)

I have - just because I had one of my usual crude and mildly offensive sigs running, and it didn't seem appropriate.

I don't think you can turn them off just for the thread though......?

I forgot to turn mine off and kicked myself later......

Yes you can. In miscellaneous options under the typing windo there is an option for "show your signiture." Just de-click it and it doesn's show for that post.

I know, and at the time, it was appropriate to the situation, but it quickly became the thread it is now. May be the title should have been changed, but it's just not screaming obvious to those who missed the start, like I did. I saw the silent thread, then wondered why. I also got a text from Surfchick mentioning it too, so I was actually looking for it, but didn't see. Do a search on 'Urgent' before yesterday's thread, and see how many people have had some urgency.

I'm not bagging anyone here, just think of the whole picture before you fire off.. We're only human
