Me n Kanny had the standard issue feed there today, (Whanga that is),. Ham, cheese, onion toasted sandwich's on brown bread, washed down with hot chocolate with TWO marshmallows.
Always a pleasure, and Kanny got her first Whanga T-shirt:-)

This pic was taken Auckland Anniversary Weekend last year. On a charity ride called the Chateau to Plateau. It is being run again this year. Can thouroughly recommend it for a 3 day cruise over the Forgotten Highway. Approx 1100kms in the 3 days from Waiuku and back. Had a ball, as I am sure alot of others did too.

Back yesterday after navigating a few thousand corners and changing gear a couple of thousand times. Travelled on some fabulous off the beaten track roads like the road from Waitomo to Kawhia. We have some great roads in NZ.............

The Gentle Annie was OK except that the road works were not very rider friendly, all was well though.

Wheras the gravel road bit to the Whangamomoana Pub was probably the best gravel I've ever ridden on a road bike.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

    Nothing spectacular Merv.

But here's a couple. The pub, that's been well photographed and Egmont, early in the morning.

Yep, there's gravel but a lot less than there was. Someone said 38ks and that seems about right. But hey, it's doable. We did it on an ST1100, two up with the kitchen sink on the back. The road works were a bit tricky and would be a bit of a lottery. Weekends when they're not working may be a bit more predictable.

But hey, you MUST ride the Annie.

Thread drege but did the route you guys take get you to the Wanganui river via track from Aotuhia,or did you go along the route to start of walkway,we did that by bike years ago, before the walkway had parking and the area around Aotuhia was an old dray track type road.

    I'm not to sure ,
we just went down the whanga road and went over bridge to somewhere and through aotuhia station past the old truck and digger then back down the metal road and end up just on the tamuranui side of Marco school.
but we go off quite a few tracks on the whanga rd and through the station.
